Two years of training William and somewhere along the way, we became much more than coach and client. We became friends.
William is nonspeaking, but he has never been without a voice. His personality, humor, determination, and feelings come through in so many ways and when given the right tools, time, and people willing to listen, he has plenty to say.
Being nonspeaking does not mean someone doesn’t understand. It does not mean they don’t have thoughts, opinions, goals, or meaningful relationships. Communication looks different for everyone, and every form of communication deserves to be valued.
William, thank you for trusting me, making me laugh, working hard, and reminding me that the strongest connections begin when we take the time to truly understand one another.
I may be your coach, but you have taught me just as much. Here’s to two years of progress, friendship, and many more workouts together! 💪
