I recently heard a George Lucas quote that I can’t stop thinking about: “We are all living in cages with the door wide open.”
Read that again.
Nobody’s locking you in. Nobody’s standing guard. The job you’ve outgrown, the relationship you’re performing, the version of yourself you’re still dragging around because it used to fit — the door on all of it has been open the whole time. You just have to notice it.
I think about how much of my life I spent assuming there were bars where there weren’t any, how much energy I put into surviving a cage that would’ve swung open the second I pushed on it.
This is the question I keep circling back to on ThriveWorthy: where in your life are you calling something a cage when it’s actually just a door you haven’t walked through yet?
Where are you sitting in an open cage right now? Tell me below.
