Scavenger hunts are a really great way to make fitness FUN! This weekend, take a family walk around your neighborhood or around town and make a list of fun things to find! For each object found, add a short workout for the kids to do!
Example List:
1. A mailbox: 10 Mountain climbers
2. A red rose: 10 Russian twists
3. A stop sign: 10 Squats
4. An American flag: 10 Arm circles
5. A place that sells coffee: 10 crunches

A question I am asked daily is, "How do I make fitness fun for my kids?". Not everyone likes to do burpees, so here are my top 5 favorite ways to make fitness fun for kids!
1. Invite friends! Kids love to be with their friends, so bring them alone and do buddy workouts!
2. Find something your child likes to do. Not every child likes soccer, dance or baseball. Let them explore movements in a positive way! Swimming, riding their bike or even walking around the neighborhood and finding things along the way might be a fun way to move!
3. Make it a game! One of our favorite games is Jenga! Take a regular Jenga set and on each block write a short workout. For example, "Do 10 push ups", "Hold plank for 1 minute, "Do 10 jumping jacks". Play the game with friends or family and each time you pull out a block complete the exercise!
4. Make it a family affair! Go for a family hike, bike ride or sign up for a 5K race! Kids are great imitators so give them something great to imitate!
5. Scavenger hunts! Kids love finding things! Find things around the house or print out pictures and write small workouts on them! Hide them all over the house and have them find the objects and do the workout on the back. For example, skip to go find the picture of the ball, run to go find the blue spoon, etc.
Let's MOVE every day and have fun!
What are your favorite go-to healthy snacks for kids?
Let’s play Nutrition telephone! Grab a partner and something you can throw back and forth! Partner # 1 will start with the object and say a fruit or vegetable 3 times in a row. Then they will throw it to partner # 2 who will repeat partner # 1’s food and they come up with one of their own. You cannot repeat foods and the partner without the object does jumping jacks until it’s their turn! Check out the video below and play along!!

Take care of your body, it's the only place you have to live! Our mission is teaching children the importance of eating healthy foods and the benefits of high quality nutrition. One way we do this is we teach them how to grow their own foods. We find that kids that learn to plant and grow their own food are more likely to eat the healthy foods they grow!
