On Saturday, May 4, the Tookany/Tacony Frankford Watershed Partnership (TTFWP) worked with 8 volunteers to replace the removed invasive species with native shrubs by live-staking them directly into the streambanks. Special thanks to Ryan Neuman & the streamkeepers of TTFWP, Wissahickon Trails, Shade Tree Commission, and other residents in the community for their tremendous help!
Did anyone lose a black cat in Hallowell Park area? He was seen sprinting around the park just now, but we couldn't tell if he was wearing a collar. Never seen him before, so just wanted to make sure he wasn't a runaway.

Tremendous thanks from the Environmental Advisory Council (EAC) and Shade Tree Commission (STC) to the 30+ volunteers who came to the Hallowell Park Fall Cleanup event yesterday (Sun, 11/13)! Volunteers included Abington HS students from Leo and UNICEF club, Friends of Hallowell Park neighbors and residents, and valued tree experts from Shade Tree Commission (STC).
We removed tons of overgrowth and w**ds, picked up trash/recyclables, w**ded/restored most of the recently planted trees, mulched, and cleaned out the stream of major trash items. It was a ton of work, but many hands made light work. We will post more pics later. Thank you so much again for all your hard work!!

Are you looking for an excuse to spend an inordinate amount of time outdoors without getting into trouble? Look no further than Hallowell Park! The Shade Tree Commission (STC) kindly arranged to have mulch delivered to two spots to tend to our young Hallowell trees. One is in the parking lot across from Bernie's and the other is just off the SPS parking lot near the stream. If there's anyone that wants to individually come out and tend trees, it would be appreciated. STC will be going every couple of days to w**d and mulch 5-10 trees at a time. All of our planted trees could use a 2-3" layer of mulch; donut-shaped. Perhaps folks with their own wheelbarrows can pitch in on their own time to keep our social distances intact. Thanks to all who can pitch in!

The Friends of Hallowell Park honor the life and memory of June Parkinson who passed away on January 4, 2020. She was a tireless volunteer and community member of Abington who dedicated countless years restoring and improving our parks and open spaces, including Hallowell Park. We were so lucky to have known her and appreciate her kindness, generosity, and gentle spirit. We send our deepest condolences to her husband, Chuck, and the rest of the family. May you find solace in the joyful memories you have of her. She was loved by many.
