Baker School of Dance We provide a fun, professional and non-competitive atmosphere for our students who range in age from 2½ to Adults.

Ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary, lyrical, wedding choreography, and more! Structured classes with an emphasis of the joy of dance! We provide a fun, professional and non-competitive atmosphere for our students who range in age from 2 1/2 to adults. Dancers receive instruction (beginner through advanced levels) for a solid foundation in many dance forms. Personal creativity, confidence and self-discipline are encouraged through structured classes which emphasize the joy of dance. Baker School of Dance was first established in 1935 by Irma Baker and she danced with us until she was 98 years old! Denise Baker (her daughter) is the owner of our current studio and she teaches ballet, jazz, tap, broadway & ballroom. The next generation Kyle Hatfield now teaches at our studio as well teaching ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, hip-hop, broadway, and our performance group. This beautiful family has opened their arms to Erin Sikopoulos, Joanne McFadden, Jaimie Gardiner, Amie Skoda, Ana Catchpole-Loveless, Kaiti Ryan, and Olivia Dutelle and we are like one big happy family here at Baker School of Dance. Meet Miss Kyle!

Kyle is the daughter of Denise and Granddaughter of Dance School Founder Irma Baker. Dancing since the age of 2, Kyle grew up taking lessons from both before heading off the SUNY to pursue other interests and Collegiate Swimming. While away, the call of dance also spoke to Kyle, as shortly after college she decided to return to the Baker School of Dance, this time as an instructor.
Kyle is certified by the Dance Educators of America & Dance Masters of America. Besides teaching at the main studio, she also runs the satellite programs at the Schenectady Jewish Community Center, Albany Jewish Community Center and the Brown School in Schenectady. At the Glenville studio she teaches ballet, jazz, tap, hip-hop, broadway, ballroom and also heads the Baker School of Dance Performance Group - who travel the capital region performing their Hip-Hop focused numbers at venues such as Joe Bruno Stadium and the Times Union Center and events such as NiskaDay and the Scotia Memorial Day Parade.

Introducing to you all, Miss Denise!

Denise is the second generation of Baker School of Dance, and teacher of ballet, jazz, tap, Broadway & Wedding choreography. A Purdue University graduate, with a degree in Psychology, she spent over a decade writing grants, and directing Human Services programs. Over her career she has served as Director of Dance for the Empires State Youth Institute of Performing Arts at the Egg; Choreographer for numerous musicals for the Schenectady Light Opera Company, Lake George Theater & Local High Schools; Choreographer for the St. Lucia National Youth choir and Director of Dance Enrichment program at the Brown School. Denise is a certified teacher of Tai Chi, which she has taught locally, and in Oregon and the Caribbean. Denise choreographed last years “Mary Poppins”, at Voorheesville HS, the production won the High School Musical Awards for best Choreography 2017. In her youth, Denise won 1st in Western NY trampoline and 3rd in Miss Dance of America. Denise provides financial scholarships each year to those in need. She thanks her mother, Irma Baker, who live to be a “dancing 98” for this joyful legacy.

Meet Miss Rebecca!

Miss Rebecca had a bit of a late start to dance, starting when she was 9. She was then able to study ballet, jazz, tap, and acro, but ballet was always a favorite. She was even able to attend summer sessions with the Orlando Ballet and St. Louis Ballet. Miss Rebecca was able to start assisting and teaching classes at 17 before getting a degree in Elementary Education. She now lives in Schenectady with her husband and daughter. Rebecca has her Dance Educators of America Certification in Ballet Instruction.

Introducing to you all, Miss Vail!

Miss Vail started dancing when she was 3 and danced with Baker Dance since the age of 11. She studied tap, jazz, ballet and hip hop. She was a teaching assistant through middle school and high school. Miss Vail is now teaching our elementary combo classes and Hip Hop! Miss Vail has her ​Bachelor Degree in Adolescence Education: English from SUNY New Paltz and is currently in graduate school. She was on her college’s dance team and is excited to blend her love of dance and teaching. Miss Vail can’t wait to dance with you!

Introducing to you all, Miss Alyssa!
Miss Alyssa started dancing at the young age of three years old. She enjoys taking pointe, tap, and contemporary weekly. When she isn’t at the studio she is working as an orthodontist assistant in Saratoga! Miss Alyssa loves teaching the art of dance to the littles of our studio and watching their love of dance grow throughout the years!
