Meet Our Head Instructor & Founder

Ian Joubert is a U.S. Army veteran, lifelong martial artist, and black belt with over 16 years of grappling experience. After balancing military service and a career in quality engineering, he chose to pursue his passion for teaching jiu jitsu full-time and founded Arete Jiu Jitsu Collective.

With years of coaching experience both on and off the mats, Ian has helped students of all backgrounds reach their goals. He believes great instruction goes beyond techniques—it's about building confidence, developing character, and creating an environment where everyone feels challenged, supported, and capable of reaching their full potential.

That vision is what drives Arete Jiu Jitsu Collective today: a community committed to the pursuit of excellence on and off the mats. Whether you're training for competition, self-defense, fitness, or personal growth, you'll find expert instruction, a welcoming team, and a place to grow.

A new generation of Arete is coming!

This fall, we’re launching Youth Jiu Jitsu at Arete Jiu Jitsu Collective.

🥋 Kids Jiu Jitsu | Ages 8–12
🥋 Teens Jiu Jitsu | Ages 13–15

Classes begin September 14th, built around more than just learning Jiu Jitsu — developing confidence, discipline, problem-solving, and physical skills in a positive community.
