This Men’s DIII match this weekend is a must-watch 👀
In Men’s DIII the West Bracket features a rematch of an upset from last year’s Regional playoffs and a matchup between two conference champions, one of which is a storied program in its first year back after a long hiatus. Only one will move on for a chance to compete for a National Championship in Houston.
The rematch features the #2 team in the country, Cal Poly Humboldt, a perennial contender, and #15 Colorado School of Mines, who stunned the Lumberjacks last year in Oregon in the middle of a miracle run to the National playoffs. Mines must be feeling a bit of deja vu as the story for 2025 has played out almost exactly the same way as it did last year, with the Mules finishing second in the High Peaks conference, forcing them to win a play-in game against a conference champion from the South to punch their ticket to Regionals.

Mines 29 - DU 5.
This weekend's game was a fantastic victory for us, marking the fourth consecutive year we've defeated DU in 15s. Despite being down eight starters and without any football players, Mines put on a commanding performance, outclassing DU in nearly every aspect of the game. We even had to make adjustments, starting two forwards in the backline, but still dominated. Our rucks were much improved, lineouts were technically precise, and although the scrums need work, the overall defense was outstanding.
Standout performances came from Max Cisneros, Jim Gabriel, Zane Sokolowski, and Jon Sanford. Max, our All-American, made a triumphant return with two tries and was a force throughout the match. Zane, the largest fullback in college rugby, also crossed the line twice.
While DU's play was technically not at its best this year, players like All-American Anthony Rice and their talented backline still presented a formidable challenge. Nonetheless, it was a pleasure to face DU—and an even greater pleasure to beat them for the fourth year in a row.
We have some work to do.

Couple of our High Peaks athletes had the opportunity to represent the West Coast at the NCR All-Star Tournment this weekend in Houston. Awesome showing from these five young men.

Brighton just might be a hub for local rugby phenoms. One rising star came up through the Brighton Youth Rugby Association to sharpen his football skills but quickly found a knack for rugby’s more rugged, scrappier version of the game. The now sophomore scrumhalf (keep reading to learn what th...
