#TeachableTuesday πŸš΅β€β™€οΈπŸ”§ – Get Out of Your Bike’s Way: Double Momentum Blockers

Double momentum blockers happen when both wheels hit resistance at the same time β€” like rocks, ledges, roots, or holes that hang up your front and rear wheels. πŸͺ¨πŸ›žπŸͺ¨

πŸ‘‰ When that happens, it’s time to get out of your bike’s way! This is where active body management comes in.

In the first video, I’m climbing uphill and needed to keep pedaling to maintain momentum. πŸ”₯πŸš΅β€β™€οΈ
Timing pedal strokes is key to avoid smashing pedals on obstacles.

▢️ Watch: I unweight the front by tipping my chest back and absorbing with my arms, while unweighting the rear by shifting my hips forward to take pressure off the back wheel. πŸ”„πŸ›ž

Each wheel needs us to adjust weight distribution so the bike can roll up and over obstacles β€” instead of slamming into them. πŸͺ¨βœ¨

In the second video, the trail flattens out with dips and rough lava rock trying to grab my wheels. πŸŒ‹πŸ›ž

We can generate momentum three ways:
* Pedal πŸš΅β€β™€οΈ
* Ratchet (quick quarter-pedal punches) πŸ”„
* Push with the arms 🀲

▢️ Watch: I combine all three β€” pedaling, ratcheting, and pushing β€” while absorbing impacts with soft arms and legs.β€¨πŸ€” At one point, my front wheel stuffed into a rock when the trail dipped, and my body weight collapsed forward. 😬 I had to quickly absorb and pedal to save it and keep moving!

Key Takeaways:β€¨πŸ”Ή Stay light: Hover or stand tall for ease of movement. Unweight the bike by lifting your chest slightly and absorbing impacts with bent arms.β€¨πŸ”Ή Let the bike move: Trust your suspension β€” don’t add unnecessary weight.β€¨πŸ”Ή Commit to momentum: Hesitation = hang-up. Look ahead and do whatever it takes to keep the wheels rolling! πŸ”₯

πŸ’‘ Tip:
Stiff arms + death grip = stuck bike πŸš«β€¨Light hands + active legs = flowing bike 🌟
πŸ‘€ Keep the eyes focused on where you want to go!

πŸš΅β€β™€οΈ = My @livcycling Pique has 120mm @rockshox PIKE suspension in the front and 100mm in the rear. This light bike really helps me maneuver through smaller rough stuff because it’s so nimble and quick to respond. I love this bike! πŸ™Œ
