Martial Blade Concepts - Golden Colorado The goal of MBC is the development of “all-purpose” defensive skills.

Martial Blade Concepts - Golden Colorado is a study group located in the Golden area, studying the Edged-Weapon Personal Defense System designed by Lead Instructor & Founder Michael Janich. Martial Blade Concepts (MBC) is an edged-weapon training program specifically designed by Michael Janich to meet the needs of today's concerned citizen and armed professional. Rather than learning a large number of specific techniques to defend against specific attacks, MBC focuses on perfecting a few proven techniques and learning how to apply them to literally hundreds of different defensive situations. Through this easy-to-learn method, students develop defensive proficiency very quickly and have both the ability and the confidence to employ their skills after only a brief period of training.

I just returned from an absolutely incredible weekend seminar I taught for Eric Kaltenborn and Buckeye Combatives Company. Thanks to the outstanding support I received from the many MBC instructors who attended, I was able to present high-level MBC and CBC skills and concepts while the rest of the participants received expert personalized attention. That synergy allowed us to achieve training goals rarely possible in a seminar environment.

I am extremely grateful to my instructors Eric Kaltenborn, Tom Cole, Kris Rhodes, Robby Cook, Bryan McKean, Scott Hugues, Dave Holloway, Mickey Yurco, Gene Potocki, Katie Smith, Hauke Schulz, Walt Spinrad, Will Heasman, and Dave Senkbeil for their amazing support and to Bryan and Ellen McKean for welcoming me into their home.

Thank you to everyone who participated for making this 10th annual Buckeye Combatives seminar and 24th year of MBC Ohio truly unforgettable!!! And, finally, congratulations to Joshua Hicks, MBC's newest Affiliate Instructor!!!

Most users of folding knives today take thumb openers for granted, but this was not the case throughout history. So, where did it come from?

When choosing a defensive folding knife, there is no ultimate “right” choice. Only what’s right for you, your needs, and your training.
