After a fractured femur sidelined him for six weeks, longtime racer and writer Lee Waldman reflects on what keeps him coming back to the start line, even when his body says otherwise.
It’s not the podiums or the medals that drive him. It’s the rhythm, the flow, the “dance” of finding smoother lines and sharper turns every time he gets on the bike.
“It’s not the winning... It’s the challenge to be better, smoother, more graceful than the last.”
Now finally cleared to ride again, Lee’s gearing up for his return, proving that passion, not age, is what keeps us rolling.
Give it a read here:
Why I Race Cyclocross - Cycling West - Cycling Utah
By Lee Waldman — Cyclocross season began here in Colorado on September 3. Normally I would be writing about what I’m looking forward to, what my goals are

Looking forward to seeing all of you tomorrow.
A couple of parking "updates":
The gate to the course is locked and absolutely no one knows if there is a key.
Soooo, here's the work around. Follow the tape which will take you around the deep mud hole and after that you can turn on to the double track. Follow that about 50 yards and you'll see another section of tape that will guide you through the fence and on to the road.
Be aware!!!! Do not ride your bike on the road. Stick to the double track for that. If you decide to try the road, you will not be racing tomorrow. Not because I'll be upset, but because you'll have minimum a dozen goat heads in each tire.
Other than that, the course is riding really well. Should be a great day.
