Goldsboro City Championship Comes Down to the Final Round

The City Championship delivered an exciting two-day battle, with some impressive golf from the area’s top players.

Will Mitchell claimed the championship in dominant fashion, finishing the tournament at an impressive 14-under par. Mitchell’s final round score was 64, highlighted by a strong back nine that helped secure the title.

Just behind him was 16-year-old Lee West, who turned in an outstanding performance throughout the championship. West finished the two-day tournament at 7-under par, showing tremendous composure and skill against a strong field.

Jonathan Burke also put together a solid championship, finishing 6-under par for the tournament. Burke’s second-round 69 kept him near the top of the leaderboard and capped off an excellent two days of competition.

Congratulations to Will Mitchell, the 2026 City Champion, and to all of the players who competed in this year’s championship. Special recognition goes to young standout Lee West for an impressive showing at just 16 years old.

The world lost an incredible golfer and treasured member of our Goldsboro Parks & Recreation family this past Sunday.

William "Deno" Jetton has only been on staff for a few years, but has been a part of Goldsboro Golf Course history for ages. Holding more than 9 titles in the City Championship Tournament, in multiple age categories, and a 2-time Legends Champion, Deno exemplified the quote "do what you love and you'll never work a day." The City Championship won't be the same without him, but we will never forget Deno!
