City of Gonzales, Texas

City of Gonzales, Texas The internationally recognized sign of freedom, the Come and Take IT flag was born from that battle. We’re not just about relaxation in Gonzales.

Today, Gonzales is still rich in history, but we are much more. We are the home to the Texas Junior High School State Rodeo Finals every May and we have rodeos at our JB Wells Park Arena almost every weekend. If rodeo is not to your liking take a look at our outstanding 9 hole Golf Course or see the Come and Take It cannon at our Memorial Museum. We are business friendly too. Just ask Adams Extract, Southern Clay, Jim H. Wilson, or Tropical Fusions a few of the companies based here. We are the crossroads of the Eagle-Ford Shale Oil Field. Such oil companies as EOG, Lucas Oil, and Marathon Oil have made Gonzales their regional home. The Texas-Northern-Gonzales Railroad provides personal service you will never see with the large national railroads. We invite you to “Come and Take It” and once you do, you’ll never let it go.

The City of Gonzales would like to thank the Gonzales Beautification Advisory Board for their continued efforts to fundraise for numerous projects throughout our community, one being the Gonzales Memorial Museum Landscaping Project, which is in full swing!

For now, when you visit the Museum, you’ll notice our flower beds are filled with fresh mulch as we prepare to move into the next phase of the project. In November, you’ll start to notice native Texas flowers begin to fill the flowerbeds. We can’t wait to see the completed project! 🌼

The City of Gonzales and Mayor Isaac Anzaldua were honored to present a proclamation recognizing Fire Department Appreciation Week to the Gonzales Fire Department.

In 1884, the first fire department was a hook and ladder company. Their first piece of equipment was a two-wheel cart and hand-drawn hook and ladder truck. In March of 1899, the present-day department was organized and relied on fundraising and volunteer contributions. The present two-story fire station with two bays was built in 1908 and constructed to house horse drawn equipment! Over the years, our fire station was remodeled twice, once in 1918 and again in 1958.

Today, the Gonzales Fire Department is manned by a dedicated group of career and volunteer firefighters who serve Gonzales with commitment and compassion.
