Ready, set, hike! Our Fall Flag Football season also kicked off this past weekend at the Goochland Family YMCA with Meet the Coach Day!

Players got their first chance to meet their coaches, make new friends, and get out on the field as they prepare for an exciting season ahead. We’re so grateful for our amazing volunteer coaches who dedicate their time and energy to creating a positive experience for every athlete.

This Saturday, our Goochland teams kicked off the season with Meet the Coach Day, where players had a blast getting to know their teammates, meeting their coaches, and getting some touches on the ball. Another wonderful success story, thank you to Goochland YMCA members, Don Simmons and Bobbi Benson, for sharing!

Our Lake Anna 70.3 journey really started at the YMCA. In October, neither of us had ever swum a full lap in a pool, and the first lap we ever completed was at the Y. From there, we steadily built up our swimming, biking, and running as we worked toward completing a half Ironman together.

Throughout the winter, the YMCA became our training home. We spent countless early mornings in the pool, did easy bike rides there, and often started our runs from the Y—even on cold mornings when getting out the door was the hardest part.

Training together made the challenging days more enjoyable and the accomplishment even more meaningful. It’s pretty amazing to think we went from struggling through one lap in October to crossing the finish line of a 70.3 together in May. We’re incredibly grateful the YMCA gave us a place to stay consistent and keep working toward a goal that once felt a little crazy.
