Hello all!
We hope everyone is having a wonderful summer! We've been doing some reflecting on girls wrestling since its inception here at Northeast and are always looking for ways to improve our program.
We've spoken with a lot of people and have heard many great things about what we're doing here, and we truly appreciate that. We also wanted to take a moment to share what Lady Rebel Wrestling is all about and hopefully educate anyone who may be interested in learning more about our program.
Here are some of the questions and misconceptions we've encountered along the way.
"Wrestling is just about brute strength."
Not true. Wrestling is a sport of technique, timing, and strategy. Don't get us wrong strength helps, but it's far from everything.
"Wrestling is only an individual sport."
While you compete one-on-one, you're always part of a team. Teammates train together, push each other, support one another, and every match contributes to the team's success.
"If you didn't start wrestling when you were young, it's too late to begin."
Not at all. Many athletes start later and still find success. Wrestling is about learning, competing, and pushing yourself, no matter when you begin.
"Will my daughter get any playing time?"
In our program, if two athletes are competing for the same weight class, we hold wrestle-offs (if an athlete chooses to challenge for the spot) during the week leading up to each competition. That means your daughter's hard work gives her a direct opportunity to earn her spot. Nothing is left to chance. Everyone has the opportunity to step up and prove themselves on the mat.
"I don't know anything about wrestling, and I'm just not sure."
Great! We'd love the opportunity to teach you the ins and outs of wrestling and show you the many benefits this sport provides both on and off the mat.
Will my daughter get hurt?
Like any sport, injuries can happen. The difference is that wrestling is built on proper technique, discipline, and learning how to compete safely. We spend countless hours teaching athletes how to protect themselves, and wrestling has injury rates comparable to many other school sports.
Many people still think wrestling is just for boys, but that's a myth, just like people once thought about baseball, soccer, basketball, and many other sports. We've seen firsthand that wrestling is about discipline, not punishment, but the discipline to stick with it, work hard, and reach your goals.
In wrestling, your effort creates your opportunity. There isn't a bench where you're waiting and hoping to get put into the game. While you're competing one-on-one on the mat, you'll always have a team behind you supporting you. Wrestling builds resilience, confidence, respect, accountability, and determination. It teaches athletes that hard work pays off and that success is earned.
It's never too late to start, and we'd love the opportunity to show you and your child what Lady Rebel Wrestling is all about.
Come join us for an open mat, or if you're simply looking for more information, reach out to us or one of our Lady Rebels. We'd be more than happy to answer your questions, address your concerns, and help you decide if wrestling is the right fit for your family.
Please share and help our program grow!!👍🏼💪🏽
