Taking time to appreciate the little things in life....can make a day successful, even when the fish aren't bitting! Brazil's Amazon.

Alaskan mentality! Alaskan Lodge owner Jerry Pippen was never happy when the ice became unsafe on Lake Iliamna in April and he could not get to his favored Brown Bear hunting spots across the lake...so, he found a solution. He used this magnificent airboat to skim across the ice & if he broke thru...no problem!!! You can see he parked it on boards so that the hull did not freeze to the ice. This thing had a 500 cid V8 with glass packs that would wake the dead. Don't ever try to tell an Alaskan, "you can't do that."

An awesome opportunity walking away...The Awesome Whitetails of the Buffalo 4 Ranch!

THE LEGEND OF THE ASSASSIN 10/14/2024

We just posted a great video of a HUGE 273 B&C nontypical Whitetail we took a few days ago on the Buffalo 4 Ranch in west Texas. "The Assassin" had been killing the bucks he fought with for the last 3 yrs and it was time to "save the herd! before his started again with the rut getting into swing"

THE LEGEND OF THE ASSASSIN Hunter takes HUGE nontypical Whitetail buck on the Buffalo 4 Ranch in west Texas. Named the Assassin, because of his desire & will to kill the bucks he was ...

This is why I never moved out of Texas after Cleveland Indians traded me the Texas Rangers in 1979. I have always been an avid outdoorsman and over the last 50 yrs I enjoy guiding as much as I do hunting for myself. I was guiding last week on a ranch in west Texas and my hunter took this monster Whitetail buck. 33' wide, 32 pt buck sporting 7 drop tines & scoring 273 B&C. As you can see from the pictures, I had one happy hunter!

The only thing I can say is "DAMN!" A good evening with the camera on the Buffalo 4 Ranch!

When in doubt, "rub it out." Check out what was under the velvet on this guy's antlers! There have been some serious mesquite trees getting torn up lately in this deers neighborhood.

Beauty in the morning light!

Morning "meet & greet" yesterday at one of the protein feeders on the Buffalo 4 Ranch. Any one of these three would look great on your wall. We can make it happen!

Bubba getting a drink the morning at the Buffalo 4 Ranch, still sporting his "velvet" look. We still have a few hunts available for these awesome Whitetails on the ranch. www.buffalo4ranch.com

This buck is an example of why I sit in a blind for hours, just waiting for an opportunity to be able to photograph a true 14 pt Whitetail buck like this! This is what Texas deer hunting is all about, managing the harvest so that bucks like this live to be 6 yrs old and reach their full potential. Texas is 98% private lands and this type of management is possible.

Getting old is a bitch, not just because it takes away your mobility, but more so because it takes away your long time friends. Here is a picture I took about 2011 of old friend and Alaskan lodge owner Jerry Pippen, who passed early last summer. We had 4 Russian clients fishing on the Kulic River in October. Jerry was doing a shore lunch for our clients, who as you can see, were sharing the river with several Brown Bears.

Good friend and Master Alaskan guide Joe Klutsch passed on March 13 at his home in King Salmon Alaska. Joe established Katmai Guide Service in 1976 and became a Master Guide in Alaska in 1995. I had the honor of booking for and becoming fast friends with Joe in the late 1990's. This man enjoyed the outdoors and life as a whole as much as anyone I have ever met! Joe headed the Alaskan Professional Hunting Association for many years. A big baseball fan,Joe & I spent many hours trading hunting, fishing and baseball stories. He had an easy and infectious laugh. I will always remember that laugh & we would carry on laughing until our eyes were wet! Joe's son Joey, who has worked with Joe in his hunting and fishing guide service for 20 yrs will carry on Katmai Guide Service. Just as a reference, my Alaska registered hunting guide license number 15 years ago was 6913...Joe's was 91!
