I have been building up my D T Swiss inventory of current rims ,spokes and hubs. D T now has components for all most all wheel designs from touring, gravel, MTB, even tandems. D T is still number one for fast road rides and racing.
Glad to say I am building wheels again. Spread the word !
I will be building and repairing and repairing wheels again soon!
I have a new cover photo coming ,with several other Face Book improvements, thanks to Ed Ames and Leonard Nuckolls. Thanks guys!
I have built 2 sets of wheels with the Wheel Fanatyk spline ni***es. They really help with the build. No rounding of the ni**le at higher tension and no wearing through the colors.
Quote from Ric: when have you seen a square bolt or nut other than the bicycle industry?
I am sending a spline spoke wrench with each set.

I am excited to announce that I will be offering the Wheel Fanatyk spline spoke ni***es for my custom wheels. The spline ni**le is the same dimension as the 15g and 14g 12mm four sided ni**le but has 6 internal sides to prevent rounding at higher tension. Check the out at wheelfanatyk.com. I will have more information on my site www.youngwheels.com.

The "Bicycle Retailer" ( the bike industry publication for the LBS) says that the Independent bike shops that don't knuckle down to the big bike brands,Trek, Specialized, etc, to accept their direct on line sales to be sent to their shops for assembly and delivery to the customer for a fee, will not survive.
I think this theory is contradicted by the " WSJ " article on the re insurgence of the independent book stores. Theory is buyers are tired of the point and click method of buying with out the input of people who know and love their product, work hard and provide service after the sale.
Question: how do the on line bike customers determine what bike they need for their riding style. Or what is the correct size? My experience in building custom wheels is, the customer design is not always the best for their needs.
Or, maybe I am just old school.

I have become interested in the L' Eroica (the hero's) ride movement that started in northern Italy in the late 90's to save the non paved roads from being paved. Now thousands attend and the movement has spread to France, England and the USA.
Roads are both paved and dirt, similar to the Gravel Grinder rides.
The basic "rules" are, bikes are pre'1987 with all period components. Riders should wear wool with shoes for toe clips. Helmets are optional.
I have 4 bikes that qualify and have a lot of components for frames in that time period. I also have a source for more frames and parts. If any one is interested in building up an' Eroica frame or a complete bike please get in touch.
I also have the knowledge of period frames and parts as I have been involved in cycling from 1968 to present : )
See my "save a classic bike" page on the web site.

I have added HED Rims to my wheel building list. I have been looking for a quality rim with more width and a welded joint. HED has a welded 23 mm and 25 mm rim with a reasonable profile.
I just built my first set with Phil Wood hubs, HED rims and DT Swiss Super Comp spokes. They very solid and light enough for the rider and his David Kirk frame set .
I have a new web site! Please take a look and give me some feedback. [email protected]
The site is the same as before but in a new format. I will be adding and deleting info in the near future.
I also plan to add more quality wheel components. I am excited to see rims to fit wider tires for road, gravel and L eroica rides.
I am building with disc brake hubs and rims now.
Keep in touch.
