A routine should support your life, not run it.

There’s something comforting about having a rhythm to your days. But routines can also become habits we follow long after they’re actually helpful.

Your needs change. Your life changes. Your routines can change, too.

Take a look at the things you do regularly and ask yourself:
What is nourishing me? What is draining me? What am I doing simply because I’ve always done it?

Keep what supports you. Let go of what doesn’t.

Feeling stressed, depleted, or like your body and mind could really use a break?

This October, I’m starting a weekly 30-minute Restorative Yoga class LIVE on Zoom.

This class is for anyone who needs a little more time to slow down, release tension, and truly rest. It’s also a great complement to an active lifestyle when your body needs recovery instead of another workout.

We’ll use very gentle movement, supported restorative poses, breathwork, mindfulness, and relaxation techniques to help you settle, release unnecessary tension, and give your body and mind a chance to recover.

You can join me right from home, which means no driving anywhere and no need to block off a long period of time in your schedule. Just 30 minutes to slow down and rest.

I’m starting with this weekly class and, if there’s interest, I hope to add more live online classes in the future.

There’s something about fall that makes restorative yoga feel especially right. 🍂

Summer tends to be busy, active, and full. In Autumn, days get shorter, routines settle back in, and we naturally start spending more time indoors.

It’s a good time to slow down.

Restorative yoga gives you the chance to step out of the constant doing and spend a little time simply resting. Supported poses, gentle breathing, and quiet moments help release tension, settle a busy mind, and give your body a chance to recover.

And you don’t have to add another trip across town to your schedule.

This October, I’m starting a 30-minute weekly Restorative Yoga class LIVE on Zoom, so you can practice from the comfort of your own home.

No prior yoga experience is needed. Just bring yourself, a few blankets or pillows, and 30 minutes to slow down.

Are you spending your time and energy on what actually matters to you?

It’s easy to fall into routines, expectations, and habits without stopping to ask if they still fit.

Yoga gives us lots of opportunities to notice when something feels out of alignment. We can make a small adjustment, try again, and pay attention to what feels different.

We can do the same thing off the mat.

Choose one value that matters to you right now. Then take a look at your week. Does the way you’re spending your time reflect it?

You may not need a big change. Sometimes a small adjustment is enough.

The things we do over and over matter.

A few stretches in the morning. A quiet cup of coffee before the day gets going. Taking a few slow breaths before bed. Sitting down for a meal without your phone.

Daily rituals don’t have to be complicated to make a difference. Sometimes the smallest things, when we return to them regularly, give us the rhythm and steadiness we need.

What’s one small ritual that makes your day feel a little better? Let me know in the comments.

If you don’t have one, choose something simple and try returning to it for a week.

You don’t have a dedicated yoga room at home? Neither do I!

This is my very glamorous home yoga studio—just a little space next to my bed. 😂

And honestly? That’s all you need. This is where I practice yoga and where I plan and write all of my classes.

Starting in October, I’m bringing Restorative Yoga to Zoom, so you can practice from the comfort of your own home. No driving, no special space, no fancy setup required.

For Restorative Yoga, you only need a space slightly larger than your yoga mat. Then grab a few pillows, blankets, or whatever you have around the house, and get ready to slow down, settle in, and truly rest.

You don’t need more space. You just need a little time for yourself.

I’m starting something new!

I’ve been wanting to offer live Zoom yoga classes for a long time, and I’m finally doing it. This October, I’m starting with a weekly 30-minute Restorative Yoga class.

I’m starting with this weekly Restorative Yoga class and, if there’s interest, I hope to add more live online classes in the future.

This class is for the stressed, depleted, physically tense, or active person who needs time and space to slow down, turn inward, and truly rest.

We’ll use very gentle movement, supported restorative poses, breathwork, mindfulness, and relaxation techniques to help calm your nervous system, release tension, and give your body and mind a chance to recover and restore.

And the best part? You can do it all from the comfort of your own home. No driving. No rushing. Just 30 minutes to pause, breathe, and take care of yourself.

I’m putting together the first group now, and I’d love to have you join me.

Yoga doesn’t end when you roll up your mat.

The real practice often happens when you step off your mat.

It’s the breath you take before responding when you’re frustrated. The pause before saying something you might regret. The choice to be a little more compassionate when things are hard. The moment you notice your breath in the middle of a busy day.

That’s what it can look like to live your yoga practice.

You don’t have to be on a yoga mat to practice yoga.

Choose one quality from your practice, like patience, presence, or compassion, and notice how you can bring a little more of it into your day.

September’s theme at Grand Lake Yoga is Integrate.

Yoga can be so much more than the hour we spend on our mats. It can show up in the way we breathe through a stressful moment, respond instead of react, make decisions, care for ourselves, and move through our everyday lives.

Integration isn’t about adding more. It’s about noticing what your practice is already teaching you and letting those lessons become part of how you live.

What is something your yoga practice has taught you that you use in everyday life?

Tell me in the comments, or save this post as a reminder to notice your practice off the mat.

Would you talk to a friend the way you talk to yourself?

Many of us are quick to offer kindness and encouragement to the people around us.

But when we make a mistake, fall short, or have a difficult day, our inner voice can become much less gentle.

Self-compassion is not about making excuses or avoiding growth. It’s about meeting yourself with the same patience and understanding you would offer someone you care about.

On your mat, this might look like:
Choosing a modification instead of pushing
Resting when your body asks for it
Letting go of comparison

Off your mat, it might look like:
Speaking to yourself with more kindness
Giving yourself room to be human
Recognizing that growth takes time

The next time you notice self-criticism, pause and ask, “Would I say this to someone I love?"

If the answer is no, try offering yourself a different response.

You deserve the same kindness you give so freely to others.
