Well first of all, a velodrome is a steep, banked cycling track ridden on by bikes with no brakes or coasting. We want to make it welcoming.

The West Michigan Velodrome Project started out just like most great ideas come about. One person brought it up, another agreed that it was a good idea, and another person decided to make this a reality. It is our mission to get a velodrome built, which is pretty obvious from our title. We don't want to just stop there, we want to make this velodrome about people. We want to make it a place where

NEW RIDERS INFORMATION 05/06/2014

Anyone want to learn how to ride on a velodrome this weekend? Let me know if you're interested. We will carpool to Detroit at 7am on Saturday morning, return Saturday evening. You only need your bike shoes and pedals, a helmet, and bike clothes to ride in. Rental track bikes are available at the track.

Last weekend Dennis Hamel and Joel Bierling joined the workday at the the track in Rochester Hills, MI. They were able to lend a hand in getting the track ready to ride for the season, and in doing so learning a little about velodrome maintenance. The 4" black plastic tubing you see them working on runs along the top of the track surface, preventing wheels from falling into the small gap between the edge of the track and the fencing. PVC pipe is used to connect the sections of tubing allowing it to expand and contract with temperature variations.

We have been invited to speak with the Hudsonville Chamber of Commerce on Monday to discuss our plans of building a velodrome in West Michigan and see what interest Hudsonville might have. This is just one of many locations we will be exploring.
