Stopped by the temple in Rockford o. Our way back from teaching in Newaygo.

Made an offering to Quan Yin for Sifu and the school for Sifu day. Reminded me of when John and I went to Vung Tau in Viet Nam with Sifu and Simu. We made offerings at the temple there. This Quan Yin looks exactly like that one ...this is one piece of marble and weighs 55 tons. It stands about 30ft high. It is very beautiful!

We met Martin who gave us a tour of the temple. Beautiful place! Happy Sifu Day week!

Sifu Day 2026

To everyone who joined us for Sifu Day this past Saturday, thank you. Your presence, your hard work on your performances, and the spirit you brought made this celebration truly special — especially as our first Sifu Day without Sifu.

A heartfelt thank you to Sifu’s daughter Chau and his son Tai for being with us. Having them there meant so much to everyone in our Kung Fu family.

We’re grateful we could come together to honor the memory of Sigong Chiu Chuk Kai and of Sifu himself, and to reflect on the values of loyalty, righteousness, courage, and integrity that Guan Gong represents — values our teachers worked so hard to pass down to all of us.

Thank you to everyone for sharing your time, your attention, and your generosity. Sharing the practices of Tai Chi Palm and Tai Chi Praying Mantis Kung Fu is what this is all about.

Sifu always reminded us that character comes first, before excelling in the art. When you practice hard, it helps you contribute something of real value — to those you love, and to the world. Self-cultivation is the true gift of these arts. They simply make you a better person.

His presence, guidance, and sense of humor are deeply missed, but his influence lives on in every class, every lesson, and every student whose life he touched.

With respect, gratitude, and appreciation,
Rick, John, Tracy, Mark and Dave

Sifu Day Celebration
Tomorrow Aug 1st, 10am-12pm

*Reminder for Sifu Day*
Please enter through the back door of the YWCA between 9:50am - 10:10 am. We will need to let you in. The celebration will begin at 10:15-10:30am. Feel free to come at 9am to practice.

In previous years, we celebrated Sifu Day with a potluck, but the YWCA no longer permits outside food events. Instead, we are considering gathering for lunch after the celebration. We plan to meet at Pho Sac Trang at around 1:00 PM, we will take a head count at the event so we can call ahead.

This is a special day for us to come together in gratitude for the knowledge, wisdom, and dedication that Sifu and Sigong shared with all of us. Their teachings continue to enrich our lives, supporting our health, happiness, personal growth, and the strength of our community.

This is a special day for us to come together in gratitude for the knowledge, wisdom, and dedication that Sifu and Sigong shared with all of us. Their teachings continue to enrich our lives, supporting our health, happiness, personal growth, and the strength of our community.

This year’s gathering will be especially meaningful, as it is our first Sifu Day without Sifu. His presence, guidance, friendship, and sense of humor are deeply missed, and his influence remains in every class, every lesson, and every student whose life he touched.

We will honor the memory of Sigong Chiu Chuk Kai, the founder of our system and Sifu’s teacher, as well as Sifu, with a short ceremony and a moment of silence.

We will also recognize the birthday of Guan Gong (Guan Yu), a revered figure in Chinese culture and martial arts traditions. Guan Gong is honored as a symbol of loyalty, righteousness, courage, and integrity—virtues that have long guided martial artists and teachers. It is especially meaningful for our lineage that Sigong Chiu Chuk Kai passed away on Guan Gong’s birthday.

All are welcome—please feel free to bring family and friends.

If you will be performing forms, please wear your class shirt, belt, and black pants. If you do not have a class shirt, we will bring a few extras. They may be a little oversized, but they will help us look united as a school.

Doors open at 9:00 AM for anyone who would like extra time to warm up, practice, or visit with fellow students before the celebration begins.

It is also customary to bring a cash gift of any amount as a token of gratitude and respect for your teacher and the school, though your presence is what matters most.

We look forward to sharing this special day with you as we honor our teachers, remember those who came before us, and celebrate the traditions, values, and friendships that continue to bring us together.

With respect, gratitude, and appreciation,
Rick, John,Tracy, and Dave
