Some impressive numbers here! Bear hunting is much bigger than most people think!

Black Bears may not drive the economy on the scale of Whitetail Deer, but they are still an economically valuable species.

North America now holds roughly 900,000 to 1 million Black Bears, with around 500,000 in the United States alone. Each year hunters harvest roughly 40,000 to 50,000 bears, generating major revenue through tags, guides, lodging, travel, fi****ms, bait, dog handling, meat processing, and taxidermy.

Conservative estimates suggest Black Bear hunting and related spending may generate around $1.5 billion annually, while bear tourism and wildlife viewing likely adds hundreds of millions more. Combined, Black Bears may contribute roughly $2.4 billion annually in economic activity across North America.

But bears also come with costs.

Vehicle collisions, agricultural damage, livestock depredation, nuisance response, relocation programs, and management costs likely total hundreds of millions annually. In some regions, Black Bears are also significant predators of Whitetail fawns, tying them directly into the larger deer economy as well.

Even after those negatives are factored in, Black Bears likely still generate an estimated net economic value approaching $1.7 billion annually.
