My idea of food and what constitutes as “nutrient-dense” food has changed drastically over the last few years. I was a vegetarian for about 8 years of my life and looking back now, I know I wasn’t thriving and there were signs that my body was certainly depleted in essential minerals and vitamins.
But thank goodness I was on that journey, because that lead me to learning more about what our body needs to truly thrive and function the way it was designed to. My symptoms and simply not feeling my best (even though I had a “healthy” diet and lifestyle) told me that something was “off” in my body and I was determined to figure out what that was.
The beginning of 2020, I came across the pro-metabolic and ancestral eating lifestyle and learned about Weston A. Price, Dr. Ray Peat, and Morley Robbins and dug into their incredible work and years of research. It all started to make sense and click.
It’s taken lots of “unlearning” and letting go of mainstream health ideas, and embracing what true nourishment, healing, and thriving looks like.

We are entering the time of year where life will be (hopefully) slowing down for your family. When I think back on my childhood, most of my favorite memories come from those long, hot, carefree days.
Summer is a wonderful time for exploring, making memories, camping, going barefoot, getting dirty, and eating ice cream…basically just living outside and trying to eliminate as many obligations as possible.
To me, slow living is living thoughtfully, going at my own pace, and carving out space for those things that matter to me. It’s so easy for the summer to pass us by and not to have done those things we wanted to experience.
Let’s be purposeful with our time and make room for those simple and slow activities that often bring us joy and life, and make us well.
Here are 21 ways to practice slow-living this summer:
1. Tend to your garden and really notice all of the colors, scents, and how nature is so perfectly designed.
2. Go for a child-led nature walk.
3. Go camping.
4. Read a book in the warm summer sunshine.
5. Bring your cup of tea or coffee outside and enjoy the morning sunshine.
6. Take mindful breaks from the screens.
7. Putter around the kitchen exploring with different spices & fresh herbs.
8. Put your phone on airplane mode and notice how much you don’t miss it.
9. Do some gentle stretching in the grass.
10. Engaging conversations with your loved ones around a campfire…oh, with s’mores. Definitely with s’mores.
11. Forage for summer flowers and make seasonal arrangements.
12. Create a care-free summer feeling Spotify playlist.
13. Play in the sand with your kiddos & build a castle.
14. Barefoot walks while being purposeful with your steps and breath.
15. Have one day a week where you plan nothing and enjoy the space, rest, creativity, and inspiration that often come with having nothing on your calendar.
16. Make homemade ice cream with raw cream and seasonal fruit.
17. Build a fort in the woods with your kids.
18. Make a big jug of sun tea with your favorite herbs.
19. Rest. Simply rest.
20. Go to a movie at an outdoor theater.
21. Pack a picnic & go to your favorite park to enjoy lunch.

I don’t know about you, but I’m so excited to be enjoying the warm temperatures and sunshine again. Now that there’s lots of talk about sunscreens, it may be a shock to hear that I rarely use sunscreen anymore and I can count on both of my hands how many times I’ve put it on Aidan.
Over the years it hasn’t really sat well with me to lather up with sunscreen (filled with chemicals) and then go sit in the sun, and the past couple of summers I’ve pretty much avoided using it all together. The sun has been demonized, and when approached mindfully and responsibly spending time in the sun is extremely healing and so good for for our mind, body, and spirit.
Some of the incredible benefits of the sun are balancing our hormones, increasing vitamin D, synchronizing our circadian rhythms, and simply making us feel happier. We need the sun and it can become a part of our daily routines without fearing it.
Now some of these tips may seem a bit odd to you, but there is plenty of research (and first count experiences!), that support and back them up.
Here are 7 ways I’ll be avoiding sunburn naturally this summer:
1. Don’t wear sunglasses. They impact your body’s natural response to the sun.
2. Take Vitamin E.
3. Avoid PUFA’s (vegetable + seed oils) and increase saturated fats.
4. Wear a hat to protect your face.
5. Gradually build up your exposure to the sun.
6. Limit your time in the sun at high peak times.
7. If in sun for a long time, use sunscreen with non-nano zinc oxide. We use All Good and really like it.

Decided to get some family photos that really encapsulate our every day life and I couldn’t be happier with how they turned out.
These our the days I want to remember. So simple and seemingly mundane….us eating our eggs and toast and sipping on our morning smoothies.
Looking at this photo down the road, I’ll remember how Aidan always liked to throw his smoothie on the floor causing the magenta color smoothie to splash all over the floors and walls….oh, and how it felt like I was ALWAYS cleaning the floors and walls after mealtime! I’ll remember how Andrew and Aidan were on smoothie duty and I was always on eggs and toast duty. I’ll remember Aidan’s wild morning hair with his big toothy grin, him singing away in the high chair, and making us laugh.
Looking at these photos I want to make the intention of slowing down in the mornings…why am I always in such a rush anyway? I want to slow down and savor these simple, messy, and ordinary moments.
Thank you so much for coming into our home and capturing our little family’s morning routine and favorite activities so beautifully and perfectly. Can’t wait to see the rest of the photos!

As we enter this holiday season it may seem that everyone around us is holly and jolly, and that can be challenging to navigate if your circumstances are difficult right now.
I’m learning that you can hang on to joy when you’re also grieving.
You can find peace amongst the stress.
And you can cling to hope when you’re feeling down.
The beauty is they can coexist, even if it doesn’t feel like there is room for both.
Whether you’re embracing this holiday season and loving all the merriness or you can’t wait until it’s over, be kind and gentle with yourself. It’s been a rough few years for us all, and not many of us have gotten through this period unscathed.
Starting this Monday, I have a 5-Day Holiday challenge to lean more into joy, calm, hope, and peace this season. Each day you’ll receive an encouraging (and festive!) email with a mini-lesson, a short video, and an assignment to help you navigate this season.
During our time together you will:
✨ identify your current stressors and implement a plan to navigate them
✨ set an intention for this holiday season and infuse these coming weeks with joy and contentment
✨ create a realistic self-care plan for this time of year so you feel nourished and supported
✨ make a list of festive and creative ideas to help spruce up this season
✨ learn tools to practice grace, gratitude, and self-compassion, especially during these strange times we’ve been living in
Hope you’ll join me! Xo

5-DAY HOLIDAY CHALLENGE ✨
If you’ve been around for a couple of years now, you may have participated in my 5-Day Holiday Challenge back in 2020. I’ve decided to share that again this holiday season!
Navigating the holidays can feel challenging and may bring up feelings of sadness, loneliness, stress, and pressure to do EVERYTHING. So considering the last few years have been absolutely insane, whatever is coming up for you is okay. Rest assured you’re not alone here.
I can completely relate to all of this and that’s exactly why I’ve created this week-long Holiday Challenge so I could lean more into joy, acceptance, gratitude, and grace these next few weeks.
If this sounds like something that would support you right now, come join me on December 5th for a week of encouraging (and festive!) emails delivered straight to your inbox.
Each email will include a mini-lesson, a short video diving deeper into that day’s lesson, and an assignment to help you navigate and experience this holiday season with more joy, grace, and ease.
During our time together you will:

It was the first snowfall of the season and Aidan’s first time really seeing the snow. I just love seeing the world and all of these new experiences through his eyes. Glad a nice man who was walking by offered to take a picture of the 3 of us….this turned out so much better than a selfie ❄️

One of the things I miss the most about life in Malaga is spending days hiking in the mountains. I sure do miss it. We don’t have mountains here in Michigan butttt we do have some pretty woods to explore. Our first day out hiking(ish) as a fam was a success. Aidan just loves the outdoors, fresh air, and staring up at all of the trees 🌲

Oh hey there! I’ve been quiet these last months and so much time has passed that now I don’t even know where to begin (this year has been a whirlwind to say the least!). Lately I’ve been feeling the desire to use social media more and share what’s going on in life, so what better way than to share a photo with my little nugget, Aidan. He is 5 months old today. I could seriously just eat him up with his big blue eyes, wide gummy smile, and cute tootsies. How’d we get so lucky 🤍

I’m about 5 times bigger than I am in this pic since it was taken in the fall 😆 How is it December already? And how am I going to have a baby to take care of in just over a month?!
I know I’ve been quiet lately on here. Maybe it’s something that just happens when you’re growing a baby. Lots of introspection, processing all of the change in my life (sooo much change these past months!), resting, and simply focusing on nesting and creating a cozy, simple, and lovely home for the little one (and for my lil family).
I’ve never had to slow down so much and truly lowering that bar of expectations on myself since I’ve been pregnant. I can’t get as much done as I used to and admittedly, that’s hard for me sometimes.
But it’s been about 8 months of truly listening to my body and keeping things realistic with that never ending to do list. It’s been a full time job getting it all done and this is a reminder that we just can’t do it all at once. I can’t pour myself into my business and at the same time prioritize my family, home, and health.
One thing has to go and right now it’s doing the bare minimum with my work knowing that this isn’t forever but just for now. Next year I can reassess a bit more and hopefully find that elusive “balance” of motherhood and work. I don’t know what that will look like but I trust that it will fall into place 💕

There have been lots and lots of life changes lately but I’ll start with this one (which is the best one!)....I’m having a baby with the most wonderful man!
We are both soooo excited to meet this little peanut in January. And nope, we’re not finding out if it’s a boy or a girl (although I kinda have a hunch ☺️).
Never in a million years did I think my 40th trip around the sun would look like this and I couldn’t be more grateful about it all.
P.S. This pic is 2-3 weeks old so the bump has pretty much doubled (or at least it feels that way 😆)
