This week the FTA does another deep dive into coaching with Greg Roe, where he explores an alternative method of dealing with athletes. This week it's all about the 'cheese' or giving positive reinforcement to the athletes during their training sessions.
Greg recently trained the coaches at Woodward how to use his hands-off approach and positivity cycle to produce a better well rounded athlete.

This weekly MaxAir TrampolinesWoodward Camp is about creating "Mazes!"
Fun Challenge coaches: Coach your entire next class without saying a word to the athletes!
Many coaches simply give mathematical and verbal cues to athletes and then they have to memorize them, remember to do them as they were memorized in real time and try to keep track of all the various cues. Humans are not able to actually multitask so this strategy does not actually work as well as some think.
It is MUCH easier to coach athletes instead by creating Mazes for them with lots of fun jumping ‘tools’ and props like a skipping rope. Go get 10 stuffed animals, pool noodles, flutter boards and anything else soft and shaped in weird ways that can be used instead of verbal cues.
When learning a new skill simply create fun unique drills that ‘force’ the athlete into a specific movement without them knowing it. They will naturally learn what I want them to do without me saying it.
This gives them more confidence because they believe they are doing it on their own even if I am ‘pulling the strings’ behind the scenes. It also makes training much more fun because it’s all a giant game to the athlete (and to the coach).
