So much of basketball and ex*****on is in the small details. This play has two of those small details that will go unnoticed when watching live, but they directly impacted the success of this play.
It isn’t the shot that’s the highlight of this play when I watch it as a coach, it’s this:
1.) The guard takes the time to line up the grooves of the ball in her hands before the pass and then uses both hands to make a perfectly accurate chest pass to her teammate with ball grooves lined up. This significantly increases the shooter’s rhythm on the catch and boosts the success chances of the shot by a high percentage.
2.) The shooter carried their transition up the court all the way to the corner realizing that the ball was baseline and by going all the way to the corner, they were in line with the ball for easy visibility and a straight line pass.
Two small details that we preach to our players. Their attention to detail and discipline to execute on the small things that go unnoticed, led directly to the made shot that goes in the stat sheet. The shots fine, but honestly that’s an expected make at this level, it’s the pass that’s the star of this clip! 🔥💜🖤💜
