Catfishing High Rock Lake on Labor Day 09-07-2026.

I made the haul and fished High Rock yesterday on Labor Day. I caught and released a total of 21 catfish, a mix of small blue catfish ranging 6-13lbs and channel catfish. I only did 2 anchors and dragged most of the day. Bait was cut gizzard shad and caught few channels on red worms with bait rods. Depths ranged from 10 feet to 25 feet. Boat traffic ran me off the water around 3pm.

Change of scenery today. Made the 75 mile haul to High Rock. Bait was easy hopefully catfish will be too.

I fished Lake Norman this morning from 1:00am till 9:30am and I caught and released 21 blue catfish. The biggest were 19-25lbs and the rest were 6-15lbs. The bite was dead all through the night until 4:30am then they fired up. Most fish were caught off chicken with a few off gizzard shad, few off threadfin shad on bait rods, and only one came off cut white perch. Only a few came off suspended planer boards and down rods, most of them came off redi rig floats out the back suspended around 30-40 feet.

The suspended bite has picked up on Lake Norman. I fished Saturday night into Sunday morning and I caught 32 catfish. Nothing big but the 3 biggest were 23, 21, and 20lb blue catfish, alot high teens 15-18, then rest 1-13lb blues with a few channel catfish. Bait was cut white perch, plain chicken breast, and 4 hit bait rod with red worms on it which was fun catching 10-11lbers on. The bite was slow through the night but picked up at sunrise and lasted into the day. Depths were suspended 20-40 feet in deep water.
