Is anyone running the New York City Marathon in November? I will be running via charity. This will be my 2nd major after Chicago last year. Slowly working towars my 6 stars
The 40 Year Old Runner
I am a husband, I am a father, I am a 40 hour per week worker, and I am also a runner...
The final week of taper for Grandma's Marathon on Saturday. I personally think this is the toughest week of training. One would think having easy runs and off days are welcome, but the mental side says otherwise. Am I losing training and conditioning, will I lose my edge, etc. But just like the race itself, training is a marathon. Trust the process. Enjoy this last week and take a second to reflect on the last 17 weeks. Good luck!
Anyone running Grandmas Marathon in Duluth in 2 weeks? If so, I will see you there!
It has been a long time since I posted. How is 2024 treating everyone? Sorry about the long absence. I would like to be more active with this page and the inclusive world of running.
Let's start simple: What races, if any, are planned? I am doing grandmas full marathon in June and nyc in November.
If anyone has any accomplishments, let's celebrate together!

Chicago is just over 2 months away, and the long runs are starting to increase. Today was a run at anticipated marathon pace. I was able to carry my goal pace, but there is a lot more room for improvement. There were many times when I wanted to slow down, but I knew I had to keep my mental focus. There is a lot of work to put in these next 2 months.
Have a great weekend everyone!

I say this all the time

Good morning crew! I normally like running in the early morning hours. It is quiet, cooler, and not much traffic. Well the past 10 days I have redefined early morning runs. I have had a handful of runs starting at or just before 3am! My wife is currently out of town and we have a 10 week old puppy. So I am on the puppies schedule. :D
That leads me to a subtle message. Most everyone has responsibilities; job, family, meetings, etc. Very legitimate and valid excuse to skip your run or workout. I had that same thought process. It was an easy excuse. Then I read David Goggins and he emphasizest . Getting those early morning runs or workouts sets yourself up for a productive day. Come 8am, you mentally are ahead of your coworker. If it's 10 miles running, 60 minutes yoga, or a brisk walk, your body and mind is already primed up!

For everyone that has the physical part down but struggle with the mental part of running, pick this book up. David Goggins is as raw and real as they come. I read this book in April and the 2nd one in May and I proceeded to PR in the 5k, 10k, half marathon, and full marathon all within a 4 week period. He was in my head when I was about to hit that wall.
David is very real and doesn't sugar coat anything. He makes you hold yourself accountable for your actions and there should never be any excuses. You can even transition items into your everyday life.
Holy cow, I have amassed over 100 likes/followers in just 48 hours. Thank you so much.
Remember post your runs, walks, workouts, so we can all celebrate success.
What races have you most excited for? I started my training for the Chicago marathon just last week. I'm going with a 12 week training plan compared to the normal 16 I've done for my past 3 marathons. I ran Grandmas Marathon last month so I have a solid base already. I am running for a charity, Saint Judes, since I missed out on the lottery.
I am also running the fox cities half marathon in Appleton WI mid September. That fits in well with Chicago training.
Lastly I have a couple of fun races in November in Tennessee. Dollywood has a 5k after 11pm when the place it lit up with christmas lights. And then I have a 10 mile race in Cades Cove in the Great Smokies National Park after the 5k.
Why do I run?
Two main reasons...to maintain an expected level of fitness and to be the best version of myself mentally.
Being able to clear my head before a work day puts me in the best position to be the best version of myself.
