This message means the world to me as a coach, but it also genuinely breaks my heart. 💔
3 YEARS of pitching lessons. 3 years of investing time, money, and trust. And in ONE HOUR, this parent finally got answers to questions he'd been asking for years!!!
Let that sink in.
Please understand, I'm not sharing this to criticize another coach. I'm sharing it because parents don't know what they don't know....and there is a lot of BAD INFORMATION on social media and with pitching coaches.
Just because your daughter has been taking lessons for years doesn't mean she's actually developing.
🚩 Repetition does NOT equal development.
🚩 Throwing strikes doesn't necessarily mean she's using efficient mechanics.
🚩 Every pitcher shouldn't be taught with the exact same approach.
🚩 You should know WHAT your daughter is working on, WHY, and HOW she's progressing.
And here's something parents REALLY need to understand…
Just because someone pitched in college DOES NOT automatically mean they understand the science of pitching or know how to effectively TEACH it!
Being a talented athlete and being an effective and knowledgeable instructor are two very different skill sets.
Playing experience is valuable, yes, but it doesn't automatically translate into an understanding of biomechanics, motor learning, physical development, or how to identify and correct movement inefficiencies. And don't get me started on the horror stories of the lacking soft skills like personality, relationship building, attitude, etc. 😳
Knowing how to DO something and knowing how to efficiently TEACH someone else to do it are not the same thing.
The part that hurts me most? This parent is worried his daughter is already too far behind.....at 11!
No parent should feel that way after years of investing in their sweet baby's future.
THIS is why I coach differently. I believe in biomechanics, science, technology, individualized development, and EDUCATING both my athletes and their parents.
I don't want your daughter just showing up and throwing pitches. I hear ALLLL THE TIME that they show up to lessons with 6 kids, most the time a student "assistant" is who works with them and it's basically just throwing reps. I want her UNDERSTANDING how to become a better pitcher. What is our desired outcome for the night.....are we working on building momentum, posture at landing or release, contact, whip, hand position, timing, deceleration, spin, spots, sequencing, etc.
Parents, PLEASE ask questions. LOTS OF THEM! Demand explanations. Know what you're paying for.
Your daughter's time, confidence, and love for this game are too valuable to waste. 🩷
Don't just invest in pitching LESSONS. Invest in pitching DEVELOPMENT!!!
