Pamlico County Hurricanes Wrestling

There are truly no words to describe how incredible the 2026 wrestling season was.

Wrestling is one of the most demanding sports there is—mentally, emotionally, and physically. Legendary Olympic Champion and Hall of Fame coach Dan Gable once said:

“Once you’ve wrestled, everything in life is easy.”

To have four boys and one girl qualify for the State Tournament is an outstanding accomplishment on its own. To then see three athletes reach the podium makes it truly special. Pamlico Co HS also finished 5th in the team score in the State!

The dedication, discipline, and heart this team showed all season long was inspiring. Every early morning, every tough practice, and every hard-fought match paid off. Not to mention the missed meals & social sacrifice.

On behalf of the entire coaching staff, we could not be more proud.

Congratulations to Junior Isaiah Mewborn for finishing 3rd in the state championships at 150 pounds! We are proud of all our guys for representing Pamlico County in the state tournament this weekend! Thanks everyone for all the love and support! 🌀🤼‍♂️💪🏼

For the past several years, we have been honored to receive donations from the Spain family in memory of their son Michael, who was also one of our former wrestlers. Michael was hardworking, competitive, and always had a way of keeping the team and coaches laughing.

With this year's funds, we were able to purchase team sweatshirts, senior singlets, and conference championship shirts. We cannot thank the Spain family enough for their continued support of our program!
