Predicting the Music

A Musicality Workshop for West Coast Swing

You heard the music. Now learn to see what’s coming next.

In Part 1, we explored how to recognize musical moments and react to them. In Part 2, we’re taking the next step: learning how to anticipate phrase changes, recognize musical patterns, and build movement that matches the story of the music.

Instead of reacting after the music happens, you’ll learn how to prepare for it and make your dancing feel intentional, expressive, and connected.

🎧 In this workshop you’ll learn:
• How to recognize musical phrasing
• Why drum fills are clues that something is about to happen
• How to predict musical changes before they occur
• Building movement toward a musical hit or accent
• Dancing to lyrics versus dancing to rhythm
• How different instruments inspire different movement choices

🎲 Through interactive games and partner activities:
• Phrase Detective
• The Crystal Ball Challenge
• Musical Roller Coaster
• Lyric Interpreter
• Instrument Conversations

Whether you attended Part 1 or are joining us for the first time, you’ll gain practical tools that will immediately improve your social dancing.
