Do you ever have a goal that you set for yourself and then let go of...but lerks in the back of your mind and pops up every now and then?

✨For me this is getting my PhD.✨

In 2009, when asked what I would do with life when I could no longer physically teach or train anymore my brain immediately said 'Ill teach'.👩‍🏫

🎓So when I went back for my MS I had the full intention of continuing to get my PhD and then become a professor.

✨That was the goal and the plan.✨

But as we know a job at IMG Academy shifted that goal and while I did go on to be a professor, I still wonder if maybe it's that last thing I should do for my career.

We never know where life's going to take us, and this is just something that's been on my mind a lot recently. I love all I'm doing with , but I still ponder that PhD....

I love UNCG, but PhD would be from somewhere else.

I'm beyond honored and excited to announce that I'll be joining the master trainer team leading their indoor cycle certifications.

It's a thrill to be able to get out leading other fit pros again, and in the first format I was officially certified in -- Indoor Cycle!

So much more to come after the MT Summit in September.

🤓 Things I geek out on.... 🤓

Creating lecture and reading schedules for the academic classes I teach!

I mean they give me the chance to...
1️⃣ Create tables
2️⃣ Use multiple colors
3️⃣ Organize things in pretty boxes
4️⃣ Find lots of fun relevant articles and videos

What more fun could a person have!

Yup, that in all ways makes me a total nerd, and I'm okay with that. ❣️

While I didn't go to school to be a teacher, I guess somehow my Dad passed it along to me and I really enjoy being in the classroom.

🤓 Now to have fun with syllabus and lecture presentations!

(And yes, I'm geeking out the same way creating the courses for GXunited Academy!!)

I'm so excited about this, that I can't hold it in any longer! I wanted to wait until it was all pretty on the website, but I can't!!!!

I'm now available for coaching, mentoring, and consulting. I've felt so inspired by my mentors and coaches over the years, and I finally feel it's time I give back. I have a true love for empowering the next generation of fitness professionals, and it's time I do that through coaching, mentoring, and consulting services.

I can't wait to move with you all again on April 24th for our next LIVE from GXunited.TV class! This time I'm super excited to bring you CounterFlow Yoga, the signature program from GXunited, that just made it's international conference debut this week at the ACSM Health & Fitness Summit.

But before we get to moving, I wanted to give you an inside look as to where the class came from.

✨✨✨

I've been doing yoga for a really long time, and teaching it since 2005. I've gone through many different schools for training (in fact, I'm currently working on my 500-hour teacher training through Blissology Yoga), and I've seen lots of different philosophies with yoga.

However, as I spent more time as a practitioner I realized that there were elements of yoga that didn't meld well with my exercise science knowledge and background. I started to ponder and question things about the traditional flows and looked at how classes were put together with a bit more critical lens (okay, that may just be because I love class design!).

What I started to realize is that traditional yoga practices aren't always appropriate for 21st century life.

In classes it seemed we were doing the same 20(ish) poses week after week; much time was spent in forward folded positions; and little attention was spent on developing the strength needed to stabilize the flexibility gains that were happening.

So one day, back in 2015 I started to develop flows that infused elements of yoga, Pilates, functional movement, tai chi, and dance into one class. I looked at ways to keep us constantly moving in a way that improved our posture, balance, strength, and flexibility. With time I found ways to be curious and creative with the movement adventures for me, and my participants.

And slowly CounterFlow Yoga was born.

The primary goal of each class is to counter the postures and mindsets we find as 21st century humans. To empower our bodies to move in amazing ways and for our brains to seek new and different ways of thinking. I want people to leave class not only feeling like they are standing taller and moving easier, but that they truly can go into their day with a new sense of wonder, curiosity, vulnerability, and creativity.

I spent the entire time I was in my masters degree saying "I don't want to be a researcher...I want to be active in the field"...but now I've got the desire to really dive deep and conduct research!

Maybe it's because I'm missing academics. Maybe it's because I'm missing using my brain on a regular basis. Or maybe it's simply the direction I'm going in my career now, but I think it's time to take a lot of the topics that I geek out on and consider how I can do deep research and maybe partner with others doing research...

Growthday LIVE! 02/18/2021

After a really hard 2020, I knew that 2021 needed to be about focusing on rebuilding not only my personal self but also my business self.

Real story - I ended the year with a lot of self-doubt and questioning about how to run a business, what I wanted to do, and where I fit in the crazy big world of fitness.

UNDER THE ARMOUR: MICHAEL PHELPS 02/08/2021

I'm obsessed with this Under Armour commercial. I got my masters in sport psychology because I really believe that it's just as important to train our mind as our body. I worked with athletes as a mental conditioning coach intern at IMG Academy (and had private clients), now I use those skills in my yoga classes and others.

This reminds me that it's time to reconnect 🙂💜.
