We are proud to celebrate an incredible milestone for Joshua Steele!

Joshua has graduated from Newberry College with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science. His hard work, dedication, and commitment to his goals have truly paid off, and we could not be more excited for what lies ahead.

As a three-year recipient of the GCC Scholarship Foundation, Joshua exemplifies what this program is all about, supporting driven individuals who are pursuing their education and building a bright future. Watching his journey and seeing his success is exactly why this foundation exists.

He extends his sincere gratitude to the membership for their generosity and support, which played a meaningful role in helping him achieve this accomplishment.

Chanticleer has been a revered South Carolina golf course for more than 55 years. The original Robert Trent Jones-designed course, formerly ranked as top-100 golf course in America, recently underwent a comprehensive renovation led by homegrown yet acclaimed designer Beau Welling. Beau learned the game of golf at the Greenville Country Club and as a result, this project has been extraordinarily rewarding for him and his team to be able to help return the luster to Chanticleer and chart its exciting future.

Chanticleer’s rolling hills and sloping topography, featuring towering pines and serene creeks, remain the same but many enhancements we undertaken to adapt the course championship history to the modern game. As part of the renovation, the course’s par has been reduced to 71 yet the golf course has also been lengthened to over 7000 yards. The nines have been flipped with significant changes to the finishing holes on the front and back. A striking new “short” par-3 playing to a peninsula green concludes the front nine, while a new demanding par-4 18th has been created with a green just beyond a restored creek, sitting below the new clubhouse and pro shop (coming in 2026).

Consistently ranked as one of the top golf courses in the Upstate, Chanticleer’s new playability will make it more accessible to many, yet new contouring on greens will have it present as a real challenge for the very best. The unforgettable playing experience of this classic course has been elevated to new heights with its challenge and natural beauty shining through on every one of Chanticleer’s 18 holes.
