Meet Malachi Schoenherr (Malachi Schoenherr ), freshman distance runner for the BYU Cougars Cross Country + Track & Field programs and the very first GUTS-sponsored collegiate athlete.
Malachi brings the kind of talent that makes you pay attention - but it’s who he is beyond the stopwatch that made this one easy. He’s hungry. He’s humble. He loves this sport. And he’s just getting started.

They call him The BIG CAT. 🐅
An let’s be honest - one look at him and you understand why. He’s built more like a demi-god than a distance runner - but boy when he decides to turn it on, he can give anybody in Greenville a run for their money!
He’s Greenville’s celebrity à la carte runner.
He knows where the miles are happening. He’ll appear out of nowhere halfway through a morning run, jump into a track session for a few reps, disappear - and then somehow magically show up with another crew later that day! And the truth is - every mile shared with The Big Cat is a mile cherished by all that are present!
But his superhero strength isn’t his speed - it’s his heart. He’s the champion encourager! He notices people. He celebrates them. And truly every word of support is genuine and real! Don’t be surpised when your phone rings the night before your big race - that’s just the Big Cat calling in with his famous locker room pump up speech!
For all the speed, strength, and running accomplishments, there’s remarkably no ego - just that big humble smile, that bouncy, contagious energy, and a genuine love for the people around him!
