Train Hard Mom Hard Fitness related shenanigans for busy mamas trying to get their s**t together. Hikes + Group Training

Has anyone done pole locally? Where did you go? What was your experience?

I’m in a bit of a rut with my normal routine and wellzzz this seems like a fun idea. 😂

Would anyone be interested if I organized a private class just for THMH ladies?

On that same note - today I’m taking a yoga class at Soul. I’m 100% open to other experiences/classes, so if there’s something you’ve been wanting to check out and don’t have a frand to go with, I’m your girl! I can even make an event and we can go as a group!

Remember - my entire goal with THMH is community through health and wellness. Let’s keep the ball rolling, birches! Let’s go into fall and winter strong and confident! 🖤💃

Someone asked how I feel about fasted training…aka IFing and not eating before you AM workout.

And my answer is:
I’m not a hard and fast no…but I’m a pretty firm no. For women.

Here’s why (this isn’t opinion, this is physiology):

When women train fasted, it:
👉 doesn’t allow your already, naturally spiked AM cortisol to drop as it should in the morning (your stress hormone)
👉 increases muscle breakdown instead of building it
👉 messes with hormone signaling (hello thyroid + s*x hormones)

And before anyone jumps in with “but it burns more fat…” Eh…maybe during the workout.
But overall? No added fat loss benefit.

In fact, research (and experts like my girl Stacy Sims) show it can:
❌ increase hunger later
❌ decrease daily movement (NEAT)
❌ slow recovery
❌ make your body hold onto fat because it thinks you’re under-fueled

So what you think is discipline is often just setting yourself up to feel like an absolute feral trash panda as***le.

Men? Cool. Do your thing.
Women? Different hormonal environment, different response.

Bottom line:
Your body isn’t stupid. It’s protective.

If you actually want to:
✔️ build muscle
✔️ regulate hormones
✔️ lean out without feeling like a gremlin at night

Eat something before you train.

Doesn’t have to be a full breakfast.
But a gallon of caffeine w/ no water and an empty stomach ain’t it.

It’s timmmme for the annual PSL info/awareness post.

I’ve got tons more ladies following since last fall/winter, so it’s definitely important to yell atcha about this.

No one and I repeat absolutely no one needs 65g of sugar. Not in a drink.

That’s just over 5 TABLESPOONS of sugar. About 1/3 cup.

I’m not here to tell you not to treat yourself. I’m here to tell you that there’s a better way.

Drinking a 480 calorie drink with 65g of added sugar that is providing literally zero nutritional benefits is s**t. Plus, the odds of you getting a treat with the drink are high. Then, you’re consuming very little actual food but a f**k ton of calories and that = starving 20 minutes later.

Do you. But do you with the knowledge of what you’re putting into your body. At least KNOW what you’re doing. That way you can make a conscious, educated choice to only drink a drink like that once in a blue moon and not daily.

I’ll be posting little info tidbits about different fun, fall foods throughout the season (and then we’ll roll into my fav: peppermint mocha time! 😂).

My goal for yall is to create awareness, so that you make choices based on knowledge and not whims.

I think I’m all caught up on responding to texts & DMs, but if I missed you - PLEASE yell at me. Some of my texts were coming in out of order from when I didn’t have service and I’m confused AF (but I did have to mentally work out what 10-5 was earlier, so I am losing my mind slightly from exhaustion.)

Currently, on a plane from Detroit to get back home - so I’ll be fully back to work tomorrow!!

If I remember and I’m not on autopilot, I’ll do a grocery store haul video or pic this evening!! Bc the fridge is barebones right now and apparently the kids/myself require food.

Availability for the rest of September is slim pickings, so if you were hoping to get on October’s calendar and maybe get a session or two in for September NOW is the time to book!!

Answers to a few questions from some of yall:
1. There will be no more Walking Challenges until May.

2. Walks are always free and I’ll be posting a few under events this week.

3. Practical Magic 2 is canceled, bc it’s not showing in Greenville next weekend. I’m not sure what’s going on with that. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I didn’t see tickets available on Fandango or Regal for Sunday.

4. The date has changed for our first THMH: FORK YEAH - Potluck Edition ! It will now take the place of when we were supposed to see Practical Magic: Sunday, 20th, 4pm.

“But Ashley I’m too tired to work out.”

Did you take your butt to sleep last night?

“Ashhhlleeeey. I don’t have time to do anything.”

Did you stay up all night watching bs TV or scrolling on your phone?

“Ahhhh, my hormones, metabolism, body functions are f-ed up.”

Sleep. You need sleep.

It’s free. Anyone can do it. It’s the absolute most critical part of self care. If you aren’t getting enough sleep, everything else is a waste.

Fix your sleep.
Fix your appetite.
Fix your mood.
Fix your energy levels.

Fu***ng go to sleep.

Sorry for yelling atcha…but not really. I yell at you because I love you. Haha!

Now. It’s 7:30pm. Start winding down. Dim the lights. Have a cut off time for screen time.

Make better choices surrounding your sleep and you’ll feel so much better!

Self-Care Sunday!

Bubble baths, manicures, and pints of ice cream.

Those are the things that we associate with self-care.

What if we started thinking about self-care as ACTUAL care for self. Things that will make you feel better for longer than 12 minutes.

Maybe you sit in silence for a few minutes and mediate on the week ahead.

Maybe you take a solo walk to clear your mind.

Today, I’ll be meal planning for the week. It’s something that helps me stay on track and feel good for the entire week.

Take care of yourself for you. For your family. For your health.

So! Whatcha gonna do?! Drop your thoughts so we can all exchange ideas!

Waaaaay more to come later (when the trip is over), but yall. I know nature and hiking is not everyone’s cup of tea, but mannnnnn the beauty of this world blows my little brain away.

I’m so, so thankful to be in a position that my body can do just about anything I ask it to. Am I completely wiped right now? Hell yeah. I’m exhausted. 😂

I don’t work out to just be strong (although it IS a fun perk); I workout so I can see s**t like this. So, I can say YES to more things than NO.

Don’t let this big, beautiful life pass you by. We’re here for such a short period of time. Go touch grass, ride a bike, eat a PB&J on the side of a mountain.

Don’t know where to start to sort your s**t? I’m always happy to yap and help! I want alllll of yall to feel confident about exploring and having the absolute time of your lives.

Hiking almost 16 miles in 24 hours with decent gain in both did kick my ass, though. It’s only 7:15pm for me right now and I’m about to get in bed.

Hey. So you wanna workout, but…

➡️ It’s been a hot minute and you’re nervous about your current fitness level
➡️ You have no idea where to start
➡️ You don’t want something that requires a huge time commitment

Here’s the 3️⃣ things I need you to do RIGHT now. Like literally. Shut up complaining and do what I’m telling you.

1️⃣ Grab a single session from me so we can either talk about the next step (listed below) or we can get you on an individualized plan. Annnd you get a workout & stretch. Win-win.

2️⃣ Pop over to the trainhardmomhard dot com shop and pick a path. Grab the Push-Up Program - a bodyweight only, full body DIY plan OR let’s build an individualized plan for you to follow.
*The Accountability As***le Program is at max capacity! I’ll open signups for that again in November (Shelly, you’re fine! Don’t freak out! Hahaha!)

3️⃣ Set yourself up a reward system. Maybe each Sunday morning after you’ve completed a week of knocking it all out, you put $20 in an envelope. At the end of the 6-8 week program you’re working on, you’ll have enough for a new pair of shoes!

Treat yourself with non-food related items!

There. Do it. I just gave you a plan. Execute that s**t.

💦 Drink water
💃🏻 Move your body
📝 Have an attainable & achievable plan

Let’s get it done, ladies!! I’m here to help.

🛌 Unless you’re getting some much needed recovery time…but I know you stay up until 3am binge watching shows and you need to be taking your whole behind to sleep earlier…y’all messing with me). 😒🤣

We spend 10, 15, sometimes 20 years s**tting on our bodies and jacking our hormones up, yet we expect to see results in 6 weeks?

Then we quit, because, “it’s not working” and jump to the next thing.

We say, “I’ve been trying to lose weight for 2 years and I’ve tried everything.” What I hear is, “You’ve bounced around from one thing to another and never gave anything long enough to actually work.”

Pick something and stick to it. Not some far-flung difficult to maintain diet or workout routine, but something that you can maintain for LIFE. Start small and tweak. Don’t constantly overhaul everything.

*Hint: it ain’t starving yourself on some 1200 calories diet and it ain’t cutting out entire food groups).

A lot of us have gone literal years surviving on lack of sleep, dehydration, fried food, and being sedentary.

You cannot expect major life-altering changes in such a small amount of time after beating the hell outta yourself for a decade.
