Grooming is an important part of riding. Our riders don’t simply learn how to ride, but how to care for their mounts as well.

Teamwork makes the dream work!

Another awesome Saturday morning at Silvers! Here are pics of some of the fun we had this morning!

We love our Hackney Ponies at Silvers. They’re spunky and fun while also being very friendly to their riders and drivers. They are a joy to ride and drive! This is an awesome story about one very determined little girl and her awesome pony.

What a great testimonial about the joys of the #HackneySpirit!
"If there are parents and trainers who have been on the fence about a road pony for their child; allow me to share our experience:
Cocked N Ready came to us as a celebrated World Champion. He was kind, honest and extraordinarily athletic. As well as game!
Ellie was 9 yo when we bought him and we knew it would take many hours of practice to try and put this team together.
While she and "Rudy" practiced at home; Ellie honed her skills on a couple of ponies we had at the farm. She was pretty consistently, last place. Because it is a 17/under class; Ellie often rode against kids who were much older and stronger than she, but it was a great learning experience for her and she loved it!
Rudy was a challenge, and I asked her often if she would like us to sell him and get her something she could show right now. We were always met with an emphatic, NO!
Fast forward two years...
While Covid has been a nightmare in so many ways; it actually gave Ellie and Rudy a great deal of practice time.
We had it pretty near perfect at home and the decision was made to give it a shot at the next show.
We had a plan and told Ellie that at any time, for any reason, if she was concerned about maintaining control, she was to pull immediately into center ring. There was no shame in it and we would live to fight another day!!
They entered the ring guns blazing and it became clear pretty early, he was going to be too strong for her to last the whole class. She came past me with her arms braced and said she was pulling in.
She beat me to center ring and stopped. Steve Ducharme who was the ring master, asked if she would like to be dismissed. She said, "no. I just need to give my arms a break". After a good laugh, we left the ring already formulating the next approach.
The next show was a repeat in spite of our best efforts. Luman has done so many "non-traditional" training methods (many of you might remember the video of Ellie standing on Rudy's bare back, with no halter or anyone near him, swinging a rope over her head).
and the trio practiced, practiced, practiced...
Ellie's last show for the year was the NH Nationals and we wanted so badly, for this team to finish the whole class. It would have been victory enough.
They blasted through the gate and never looked back, winning a really large and exciting class. I'll admit; I was misty!

So here's the thing;

* If you want them to learn how to really work for something
*To experience the thrill of the race with their pony and their friends
* To add a couple more gray hairs to Moms head
*Most importantly: Watch your child experience PURE JOY!
There are few moments in anyone's life that will have such a positive impact as sitting atop one of these little rockets!!" -Elaine Gregory
