Lloyd's Ridge. A famous spot way offshore where you are either a hero or a zero if you elect to venture there to fish a tournament - it's isolated so you are putting all of your eggs in one basket so to speak. It's located about 160 nautical miles SE of Perdido Pass in close to 10,000' depth of water just offshore of the West Florida Slope.

Until recently, looking on a bathy chart, Lloyd's Ridge was located on a fuzzy ridge in that area, but with new improved bathymetry data available now, I was amazed to see that Lloyd's is actually an ancient raised river bed snaking along the bottom at 9,000-10,000' depths!

AND, I believe it's not just ANY river bed. I don't claim to be a scientist, but I believe it is fairly obvious that this is actually a continuation of the Mississippi River. The graphic shows the course of the Mississippi on land in relation to the course of what is visible of the raised river bed. Too cool.

I may be wrong on this, but I find it fascinating nonetheless. I'm also interested to know who Lloyd is and how he named this spot.
