FB Book lovers,
Our next book discussion is on April 25, 2021. Our Book is called "Look the Devil in the Eyes" written by one of our own Washington County residents Fred Chavis. I was so excited when I heard he was an author and my book club "Between the Line" highlights African American authors. We will be going virtual again and everyone can pick up the book it's out now on Amazon! All lovers of reading are invited to discuss the book AND, speak with Fred himself. Yes....he will be joining us! I will have the Zoom info later this month.
"When I was growing up, there were two genres I watched most with my dad & late grandpa—horror & history. Even though the horror movies would scare me out of my mind at a young age I was drawn to them. As I got older, I realized that the scariest stories were not werewolves & monsters, but the true horrors of society. My stories are my voice of activism and liberation. My stories show history can be a true horror especially when history plays a role in your current state. Look the Devil in the Eyes was my favorite story to write. I fell in love with the history of Jonathan Street and through that love I found the voice to fight for it."

Hello Ladies and Gents:
I hope everyone has purchased or will be, and have started reading The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett our first book read/discussion for the new year. The date has been pushed back to January 24th at 3pm.
If you plan to attend please contact me so I can give you the zoom info.
Because this book club is virtual it is open to anyone who loves to read and discuss (women and men)
"The Vanishing Half examines sisterhood, personal identity, starting fresh, and what it means to be Black (and white) in America. Bennett is known for creating taut family dramas, and like her brilliant debut, The Mothers, this novel shows just how strong the bonds of sisters are, even at their weakest. The Amazon Books Editors named The Vanishing Half a Best Book of the Year."

Everywhere you turn you see articles about how people no longer read. As a matter of fact, it has been a long-held belief in the publishing world that African American's (AA) don't read. I believe the naysayers are wrong on both counts.
When Terry McMillan took the world by storm more than 20 years ago and AA's were finally able to read about characters who looked like them and who lived in a world they were familiar with, the attitude of the average AA reader changed. Though many of us have been avid readers all of our lives, books written by and for us had, up until that time, been few and far between.
In today's world, the Kindle and the closing of the majority of AA brick and mortar stores have changed how we read, what we read, and how we meet our favorite authors. Book clubs and literary events have become the greatest supporters of the AA author.
With this in mind, I invite all to come out and support my book club "Between The Lines" starting back up January 2021!
