We love planning events and activities for our members! This past month, we offered a Mahjong instructional series, and it was a hit with our ladies! We are thinking of starting a new series, and this time having it poolside! Who is up for AquaMahj?

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. While many gather with family and friends this weekend, we are reminded that our freedoms came at a tremendous cost.

At Fountain Head Country Club, we are especially grateful for the veterans and active military members within our community and beyond whose leadership, humility, and service continue to inspire us every day.

Tennis Tip of the Week: The Small Move That Makes a Big Difference

If you've ever felt a step slow on the court, the split step might be the most impactful habit you can build. It's a small, preparatory jump performed just before your opponent hits the ball, allowing you to move explosively in any direction. Here are three things to keep in mind:

Timing -- Begin your jump before your opponent makes contact, so that you land right as they hit the ball. The sequence is: jump, move forward slightly while airborne, then land on the front halves of both feet in a wide, balanced stance.

Ex*****on -- Keep it light. Land with feet wider than shoulder-width, knees bent, and weight forward on the balls of your feet.

The Next Step -- The split step only works if what follows is quick. Your first step after landing should be snappy, getting you to the ball as early as possible.

The split step is easy to overlook because it isn't as exciting to practice as a new serve or a topspin forehand. But it's the foundation that makes every other shot easier. Players who split step consistently look calmer and more fluid on court, not because they're faster, but because they're always ready. Build this one habit and you'll start reaching balls you used to miss, already balanced to do something with them.
