Oh hey, I just wanted to introduce or reintroduce myself, my name is Melissa.

I was born and raised in rural Maryland, and now live in the Burbs. I grew up going to the beach every summer since I was 5, and that’s when my love of sand & salt began.

I fell in love with fitness at a young age & started strength training at 17. I lived & loved fitness and was determined to help others reach their fitness goals, so I decided to pursue a degree in Exercise & Fitness Science.

Since then I’ve received a Personal Training, Nutrition, Golf Fitness, and a Peri/Menopause Certification.

I’m not a mom to human babies but I am a mom to a handsome Pittie named Ceair and 6 cats.

I have two amazing goddaughters, that are my world, and they’re more like me than anyone would like to admit. 😜

I’m very competitive and will challenge anyone to a game of “anything.” I have the best historic trails and beautiful mountains near my home and I love to take my boy Ceair on hikes and trail runs with me.

Oh, and if you see me, my hair is almost always in a messy bun or a ponytail and that’s because I’m always on the go whether training, parental caregiving, or just being active outside.

👇🏼Drop in the comments & tell me a
little about yourself.

If you’re going through perimenopause or menopause, fiber deserves WAY more attention than we’re giving it.

Fiber isn’t just about keeping you regular, it supports gut health, digestion, blood sugar management, heart health, and overall nutrition.

A great way to get more fiber, is eating more plant-based foods.

A big misconception is the belief that eating plant-based means “no meat”

Plant-based does NOT mean vegetarian.

You can absolutely eat meat, fish, eggs and other high-quality protein while still building a plate around vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts, seeds and whole grains.

Think more plants, not “no meat”

Aim for around 25g of fiber per day and gradually work your way up if you currently eat much less.

Give this Mediterranean Falafel Hummus Bowl a try. It’s filling, loaded with good stuff and has around 10+ grams of fiber. 👇🏼

•Mixed greens
•Cucumbers
•Cherry tomatoes
•Feta cheese
•Hummus drizzled with olive oil
•Falafel or ground turkey meatballs
(I like to mix it up and do both)

📌 Save this for your next grocery trip and send it to a friend who needs to hear that plants-aren’t the enemy. 😉

I walk with my dad daily as he navigates through Parkinson’s Disease & dementia. His ongoing decline is a reminder of how important daily movement is to get the blood and oxygen flow to the brain.

This is something I really want women over 40 to understand.

Your workouts matter, but so does everything you do between workouts.

If you’re sitting at your desk for 8 hours, driving, sitting on the couch at night, and then squeezing in a 30-minute workout, you’re still spending the majority of your day sedentary.

That can affect your energy, mobility, cardiovascular & cognitive health, muscle strength, and how your body feels day to day.

Our bodies are built to move, so let’s get more movement throughout our day.

•Take a 5-10 minute walk after meals
•Stand up and move between meetings
•Take the stairs when you can
•Do a few squats or calf raises while dinner
cooks
•Walk while you’re on the phone
•Stretch while watching TV
•Get outside instead of scrolling for another
20 minutes

Strength training still needs to be part of the equation, especially as we move through perimenopause and menopause, but let’s stop waiting for your “workout time” to be the only time you move.

📌 Save this as your reminder to get up and move today.

When I was younger, I thought health was mostly about how I looked. Now I understand it’s about how I want to live.

I don’t lift weights because I’m trying to look a certain way, I lift weights because it’s an investment in my future.

The consequences we’re facing as we age aren’t just about how we look, I’m talking about the falls, fractures, weakness, loss of confidence and eventually loss of independence.

Our most powerful tool we have in preventing this is progressive resistance training.

I’m not talking endless hours lifting heavy weights, I mean gradually challenging our muscles over time.

There are several ways of implementing progressive overload into your training program.

•Increasing the intensity
•Increasing the resistance
•Adding more sets or reps
•Greater range of motion
•Improved form

Give this a try ⬇️
•Pick a weight you can lift for 6 reps
•Each week: add 1 rep
•Once you hit 12 reps increase the
weight
•Repeat 👉🏼 that’s progressive
overload

During perimenopause, menopause, and post menopause it’s about building a stronger body that can carry us through the next 20, 30, even 40 years of our lives. What we build at 40, 50 and 60 directly impacts what our body can do decades later.

Let’s continue to lift heavy, stay strong, remain injury free and keep doing the things we love for many, many years.

Am I overwhelmed more often than I’d like to admit, for sure.

Am I exhausted most days, absolutely.

Even though most days I don’t feel like showing up, I do!

And those days are the days I have the best workouts, and feel my best when I’m finished.

I don’t care how you do it, just get it done! 💪🏼

During menopause, declining estrogen levels trigger a biological shift in how your body distributes fat, moving it from your hips and thighs to your abdomen.

This hormonal change, combined with a natural loss of muscle mass, a slower resting metabolism, and increased insulin resistance, makes midsection weight gain very common.

…choose me to keep from breaking.

Caregiver guilt is REAL. 👇🏼

You feel guilty when you take time for yourself, when you rest, or guilty when you put your own needs on the list.

Here’s the reality, if you crash physically, the entire family structure you’ve been holding up can crash with you.

That’s why STRENGTH TRAINING isn’t vanity.

It’s no longer about chasing abs, shrinking your body, or looking good in a pair of jeans.
It’s now about your operational capacity.

It’s building the strength, stability, energy, and physical resilience you need to keep showing up for the people who depend on you.

You are allowed to take care of YOU!

In fact, sometimes taking care of yourself is one of the most responsible things you can do for your family.

Your strength matters, your health matters, and YOU matter.

You don’t need to feel guilty for that. ❤️

Send to someone who’s feeling the guilt.
