Twelve beautiful horses under a rainbow at Blessington Stables today. Couldn’t have asked for a more perfect moment on this gorgeous day. Barn life has its chaos, but scenes like this make every bit of it worth it. 🌈🐴

After a long on and off stormy day the ponies are enjoying overnight turnout and beautiful sunset across the street.

Why choose Blessington Stables?
👩‍🌾Blessington Stables: Advantages vs. Other Boarding Facilities:

🏡 Owner On‑Site

The owner actually lives on the property — not “nearby,” not “checks in,” but physically on site.
This means:

• Immediate response to emergencies
• Eyes on horses multiple times a day
• No relying on teenage barn help or part‑time staff
• Horses are not left unattended overnight

Most barns cannot offer this level of real-time oversight.

🌤️ Weather‑Based Turnout

Blessington doesn’t follow rigid “out at 9, in at 3” schedules.
The owner monitors weather constantly — radar, storms, heat index, wind, footing — to maximize pasture time safely.

Benefits:

• Horses get more turnout than at schedule-based barns
• Avoids dangerous conditions (ice, lightning, heat spikes)
• Horses stay mentally happier and physically healthier

Most barns do the same schedule every day regardless of conditions.

🌱 Huge, Heavenly Pastures

The pastures are massive, lush, and actually maintained — not overgrazed dirt lots.

Advantages:

• Horses graze naturally, reducing hay costs and boredom
• Lower herd stress because there’s space to move
• Better hoof health from varied terrain
• Cleaner, safer turnout with fewer injuries

Many barns advertise “pasture turnout” but offer small, beat‑up paddocks.

🐴 Low Herd Density

Blessington avoids overcrowding.
This means:

• Less competition for food
• Fewer pasture injuries
• Horses form calmer, stable social groups

Other barns often pack horses into limited space to maximize board revenue.

💧 Clean Water & Pasture Management

• Fresh water checked multiple times daily
• Pastures rotated to prevent overgrazing

Most barns do the bare minimum — water once a day, no rotation, mud pits everywhere.

🧲 Hands-On Daily Care

Because the owner is on-site and involved:

• Blanketing done correctly and on time
• Fly masks checked and removed when needed
• Injuries noticed immediately
• Horses get individualized attention

🧘 Quiet, Stress-Free Environment

Blessington is not a high-traffic lesson barn or show barn.
This means:

• No constant chaos
• No overcrowded arenas
• Horses stay calmer
• Owners enjoy peaceful visits

Most boarding barns are busy, loud, and chaotic.

❤️ Individualized Horse Attention

The owner knows every horse’s:

• Personality
• Herd dynamics
• Health quirks
• Weather tolerance
• Feeding habits

This is rare. Most barns operate on autopilot.

⭐ Bottom Line

Blessington Stables offers hands-on, weather-smart, owner-supervised care with huge pastures and low stress — a combination almost no other boarding facility can match.

⚠️ Air Quality Alert – Hamburg, NY ⚠️
The Air Quality Index (AQI) is currently 200 – Very Unhealthy.
After re-evaluating conditions, the air quality alert remains in effect. To protect the health of our horses, Blessington Stables will continue indoor rest for the day.
🐴 For today:
Horses will remain inside during the day until air quality improves.
No turnout or riding is recommended.
Barn aisles will be lightly misted to help reduce dust.
Fresh water will be available at all times.
We will monitor for coughing, nasal discharge, eye irritation, or any signs of respiratory distress.
Electrolytes may be added for horses that sweat while indoors.
Stall fans will be used to circulate air without drawing smoky air from outside.
If air quality improves later today, overnight turnout will resume when the early morning and late evening particulate levels are typically lower.
🚨 If any horse shows signs of respiratory distress, contact your veterinarian immediately.
The health and safety of our horses is always our top priority. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we wait for cleaner air. 💙🐴

Putting together a compilation of Ricky Bobby’s chicks hatching today, along with some of my favorite photos and videos of him from this past year. It’s bittersweet, but seeing his babies reminds me how much joy he brought to our flock.

🐣 New Life After Loss

Even though Ricky Bobby is no longer here after bravely protecting his hens, his legacy lives on. Today, some of the fertilized eggs he left behind are hatching — right now, as we speak.

The first little one has made it out, still wet and wobbly, and another is working its way through the shell. I’m not sure yet if the first chick carries Ricky Bobby’s spirit, but watching new life emerge from the eggs he guarded feels like a beautiful reminder that his story continues. 💛 Thank you Daun for making this possible!
