BIKE WEEK GRAND FINALE!!!
Tomorrow we bring Bike Week to a close by moving our Saturday morning activities to the Deviate Physiotherapy & Performance Studio in Ponchatoula. It shows up in maps, so I won't insult your intelligence. Thanks to Dustin for hosting!
Pre-ride briefing starts at 6:30am with instructions on how to participate in a group ride. Roll out at 6:45. You can see Dustin's previous post with further instructions, but there are two pace groups such that you do not get dropped. There will some informal interaction on how to get into cycling when everyone returns back at 8 ... followed by a Tour de France watch party!
We've had offers of extra bikes if you want to borrow. Consider hitting Andrew Macaluso up in the comments.
I'd encourage some of our cyclists, if you have various rigs of the kinds we've talked about during the week (road, tri, mountain, gravel bikes) and a safe way to stow them, consider bringing some of them out so our runners can get a look at what they're dealing with.
If you decide to run, I'll link to a Strava activity with the route in the comments. You may be able to save the route from there and just use Strava on your phone. There are plenty of instructions on downloading a route on Youtube.
6:45-8:00 would be a long time for some folks to run. Loops may be coming through about every 25-30 minutes if you choose to jump into the group run a little bit later so as to be a the post-run hangout. The route is winding, so if you plan to just look at it, consider running with a phone in case you need to map back.
We'll have a tent out, and I've got a case of water, some key lime La Croix, and snacks left from Wednesday. But, consider bringing anything else you'd like to share around.
Looking forward to seeing everyone out there tomorrow. ALL HAIL THE TRC!!!

BIKE WEEK DAY 6!!!
Don't forget to check out Dustin's post from yesterday about the group ride/run tomorrow. A bit more to come if you plan to run. But, basically briefing at 6:30am and roll out at 6:45 for the ride from the Deviate Studio. Plan is for everyone to be back by 8. Then we can talk shop about bikes and there's a Tour de France watch party!
But, in the meantime, we've got a second follow-up episode with Scott and Patrick about gravel and mountain biking. We survived the trains. Hear some of their stories about favorite rides with some recommendation about races if you decide you want to test yourself out on the bike.

BIKE WEEK DAY 5!!!
Thanks again to Dustin Drewes from Deviate Physiotherapy & Performance for giving us some great insight last night on cycling as cross-training for runners. I know the weather was looking a little sketchy last night, and we had a heat advisory, so we've got that recorded and will release that for anyone who was interested, but couldn't make
It's been really interesting to hear how all the cyclists we have had on are saying a lot of the same things. And, one thing we've heard is how cycling is an endurance building activity that can lead to adventures you wouldn't be able to have running because a bike can take you farther.
In today's episode the bikes take us off-road. Had a great time recording with Jason, Scott Henderson, and Patrick White. Scott has been a long-time friend and for as for as long as I've known him I think he's been trying to get me to go ride with him. I have not, but it's great to see how the club brings people together with similar interests such that now Scott and Patrick are part of a crew that takes an annual mountain biking trip.
Lastly, don't forget to get ready for our Saturday group run/ride option at the Deviate Studio. You need a helmet. But, even if you don't have a bike, we've had an offer of some loaners. So, comment if you want to participate in the bike portion, but may not have a bike.

BIKE WEEK DAY 3!!! One of the great things about bikes is that they open up other fun kinds races for runners to do like duathlons and triathlons. So, Heather St Amant from (our own club and) New Dimension Endurance Coaching came on The Thompson Running Show to talk with us about cycling as a triathlon discipline.
It's not time to get hyped also for our first in person meet up of Bike Week tomorrow night at the Amble and Ale 5K. Heather touches on it some in the podcast, but Dustin Drewes from Deviate Physiotherapy and Performance will be out to talk to us a bit about cycling as non-impact cross-training (as well as other forms of non-impact cross-training). We'll have "refreshments" courtesy of Perfectly Fit and the Thompson Running Show. So, make a plan to come out and join us for a fun, informative session.

BACK WITH DAY 2 OF BIKE WEEK!!! Part 2 of The Thompson Running Show's interview with Andrew and Mark is up. In this episode, we talked about some of the challenges getting into cycling: fear of getting "dropped" on a group ride, learning about gear, bike "fit", and more. There are also some reassurances and resources to help you past some of that.
Cicadas were on the wane this episode, so didn't have to filter voices but I've learned a lot about sound engineering ... those frequencies will still leave a little bumpiness to the mic ... but only after the publishing platform compresses ... Annoying. Long story short, you can listen through your podcast app, but for the best experience you can listen through a web player like on a computer ...

Cycling Tangi Part 2 with Andrew Macaluso (Tangi Cycling) & Mark Hammonds (Pedals and Pints)

Well we have arrived … it’s BIKE WEEK! Today you’ll get the first installment of a two part interview with Andrew Macaluso and Mark Hammonds. This one was a lot of fun to record, but I’m going to go ahead and apologize in advance. We recorded on my back patio, which seemed like a great place to sample some Deadbeat Brewing offerings and record. One thing I hadn’t accounted for was crickets and/or cicadas.
I’ve put a filter on the audio and summarize some of the earlier portion when they were at their worst. The filter keeps the lows so it adds a little bumpiness to the mics at points. Any problems with the audio that remain were mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa. What I do think still comes through is Andrew and Mark’s enthusiasm about cycling Tangi and a lot of great information about how to get involved. And, Thanks to Madison for the cover graphics.
Lastly, a reminder of our schedule:
Sunday on the Thompson Running Show - Cycling Tangi Part 1 with Andrew Macaluso (Tangi Cycling) & Mark Hammonds (Pedals and Pints)
Monday on the Thompson Running Show - Cycling Tangi Part 2 with Andrew Macaluso (Tangi Cycling) & Mark Hammonds (Pedals and Pints)
Tuesday on the Thompson Running Show - Hammer the Bike: Cycling in Triathlon with Heather St. Amant of New Dimension Endurance Coaching
Wednesday following the Amble and Ale 5K - Cycling as Cross-training for Runners with Dustin Drewes of Deviate Physiotherapy and Performance
Thursday on the Thompson Running Show - Cycling Offroad: Gravel and Mountain Biking Part 1 with Scott Henderson and Patrick White
Friday on the Thompson Running Show - Cycling Offroad: Gravel and Mountain Biking Part 2 with Scott Henderson and Patrick White
Saturday - Bike Lab at the Deviate Studio @ 6:30am - Group Ride or Run (for those who may not even have a bike) options then stick around to learn about bikes - tri bikes, road bikes, helmets, trainers, clips, pedals, aero bars, and more … come see what it’s all about

Heather St Amant was kind enough to double up on episodes for The Thompson Running Show this week. She joined us to talk about a bike week topic, but we also took that as an opportunity to talk about the Fireman’s Run. One big headline: There’s a forthcoming discount code … and, there are instructions. It’s a pretty nice discount too. Being pretty vague aren’t I? Guess you’re going to have to listen …

Great episode last week recapping the Q50 trail extravaganza with friends. Be sure to check it out if you missed it.
Wag, Walk, Run 5K is coming up this weekend in Hammond so yesterday Heather St Amant was kind enough to join us for the show.
Some important info. Some recs on parking. Very limited spots left. 1 mile is sold out. Looks like it could be a nice weekend for racing.
Who knows how many weekends we’ve got left for those 5K PRs before the heat sets in for good? So get signed up and don’t forget to choose Tangi Running Club for the team competition.
And, if you’re looking for coaching don’t forget to check Heather out at New Dimensions Endurance Coaching.
