Calling All Runners of All Ages

Saturday, May 6, 2023 We have a 1 mile fun run (for all ages) which starts at 8:15 am. The 5K race starts at 9:00 am.

The Peninsula Track Club (PTC) is holding its annual Joe & Sue Moore Memorial Scholarship 5K race at Sandy Bottom Nature Park in Hampton, Virginia. The race, in honor of both my parents, is the major fundraiser for the PTC Scholarship fund. Every year since 1989, the PTC provides annual college scholarships to college-bound high school seniors who have participated in high-school running and have

excelled academically. The Joe and Sue Moore Memorial Scholarship race is named after my late father, Joseph W. Moore and my late mother, Dorothy J. (Sue) Moore. Anyone who knew them realized what avid runners they were. They were also long time members and supporters of the Peninsula Track Club, competing and volunteering in hundreds of races over the years. In 1996, at the ages of 79 and 73, they ran the 100th Boston Marathon. When my father passed away in 1997, my mother switched from running to volunteering and was a regular pulling tags at PTC finish lines. They are survived by their three children: Susanne M. Mendola, Joseph A. Moore, and myself. One of my father’s favorite sayings was, “Running is life — The rest is just details”. For those of you that showed last year it was an absolutely beautiful day. The race for 2017 is secured; we are holding it Saturday, April 1st. APRIL FOOLS DAY EVENT!!! Please remember this is the race with the great door prizes that everyone talks about year after year! Last year we had 65 door prizes. All participants receive a ticket for a chance to win a door prize. This is a Peninsula Track Club Grand Prix Event race. I thank you all in advance for your support of this very worthwhile and beneficial program. Bring a friend, and come on out to for a fun time. Free hot cider and coffee for all. Raquel Manadero is the recipient of the PTC Joe and Sue Moore Memorial Scholarship for 2023. Raquel is a graduate of Menchville High School, class of 2023. She will attend the United States Naval Academy and plans to study medicine and chemistry. She has been a frequent participant in PTC races and is a consistent age group award recipient.

Raquel was selected as the student representative to the Newport News School Board for the 2022-2023 school year. She participated in the Air Force ROTC, was a member of the National Honor Society, the National Spanish Honor Society, varsity cross country and indoor/outdoor track teams, the soccer team, and she volunteers for several community programs.

She is the daughter of Dr. Rod and Marina Manadero, and she has a younger sister Grace and a younger brother Kai. Dr. Manadero is a chiropractor and is a sponsor of the annual PTC Joe and Sue Moore Memorial Scholarship 5K race.

We congratulate Raquel on her selection for the PTC Scholarship and we wish her much success in the future.

Hello it’s me again…
Thank you everyone for supporting this race. It was a wonderful turnout with 140 total registrations. The weather was perfect for RACE DAY.
