What is my dharma (my true calling)? I can feel it—I cannot change it and I cannot predict what will come of it. I can only take action toward what feels true with hope and reverence. 🦋

🧘🏾♀️ Pose Breakdown: Standing Head To Knee Pose
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
aka: Dandayamana Janushirasana this is a full body strengthener that challenges your balance and focus.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
☀️ Inhale bend one leg lifting towards the chest
☀️ Reach to the sole of the foot, interlock the fingers
☀️Keeping the standing leg locked for balance. Knee strong
☀️Inhaling push the heel forward extending the leg out in front of you.
☀️Gaze forward with focus (dristi)
☀️ Exhale to drop the head towards the knee
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Why I love this pose:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Typically, I practice this in front of a mirror so I am able to really tap into the gaze once I’ve extended my leg. This balance is so intimate because it relies solely on my trust in my standing leg and my grip on my extended foot. I can feel all parts of my body working together and the connectedness of it all nearly sends me to tears (no 🧢) I feel strong and limitless. My hips are working my arms are lifting my tummy is strong and the hamstrings sing. Chile, this is one of my favorites.

❤️ Sometimes, I’m twisted up and all over the place (ask my 50/11 to-do lists)... but I keep looking towards hope for the future. I’ve got hella things on my plate but there’s always room for two things—self-care(and it’s advocacy) and creativity. Todays Mantra: Fill your cup with the juice you love...

PTSD Awareness
🖤 During a stressful event, our mind and body kick into ‘fight or flight mode’ if we believe that our lives are in danger. Stress hormones are activated as we respond to the situation, and then those levels balance out as we begin to feel safe. This is a normal response.
🖤 Here’s where it becomes chronic… If the reactions to that stress don’t go away or if we never begin to feel safe then our “flight or flight mode” never gets a chance to turn off. This is PTSD.
🖤 When stress is always present we can constantly feel under attack.
Long term activation of the stress response can cause imbalances in many of your body processes. This is how trauma gets stored in the body.
🖤 Practicing yoga can help to alleviate symptoms and provide a pathway to healing by relieving the pressure through our bodies.
🖤 Practicing slower movements, intentional breathing techniques, and mindfulness can help soothe a hyperactive nervous system.
🖤 Beyond instant relief, the goal of yoga is to trace the origins of the trauma and learn to confront and release it.
🖤 But you don’t have to practice yoga. There are so many other ways to balance stressful feelings.
🖤 Listen to calming music, sing, dance, journal, meditate, take a bubble bath, talk to someone you trust, cook, go for a walk, work out, play an instrument… or anything else that brings you joy
🖤Unmanaged PTSD can cause people to experience overwhelming feelings
Immobilization, numbness, flashbacks avoidance, hopelessness, anxiety, chronic pain, hyper-alert, irritability,
🖤 This can lead to substance abuse, employment, or relationship problems, depression.
🖤 We all carry trauma. We all need a chance to release it…
🖤 If you are interested and learning more about how yoga practice could help manage I would love to share some more information with you.

☀️ The message for the day is authenticity. 💙
Begin To give yourself permission to lean into who you truly are without shame. The throat or is represented by the color blue. In its balanced state reveals itself in honest and authentic expression. We don’t have time to play small or be silent. We must speak truth and share our unique gift with the world.
Practice: Close your eyes for a second and imagine the vastness of a blue sky or a blue ocean and know that you have that same vastness within you. Try writing down how you feel. 📖
Let go of fear of acceptance or worry of inadequacy. You are powerful. So speak your truth! —Drop a 💙 if you feel me!
Ps. I still have a few openings for online 🧘🏾♀️ clients. If you are interested send me a message 😊
