It is Monday, June 1, 2026, and Green Wave Watersports is closed today for our scheduled day off. We will begin our seven day a week schedule starting the week of June 15.

Today is a bit of a tale of two beach days at Buckroe. The morning and early afternoon look like the best window, with mostly sunny to partly sunny skies, comfortable temperatures, and sunshine making it feel warmer than the numbers suggest.

After about 2 PM, conditions start to change. Northeast winds pick up, gusts build, and the water will likely get rougher through the late afternoon and evening. If you want the best beach window today, earlier is the move. By later in the day, it may feel breezy on the sand, rough on the water, and cooler by the shoreline.

The wind shifts from west southwest this morning to north northeast and northeast later in the day. Once that shift occurs, water conditions at Buckroe Beach will deteriorate quickly. By late afternoon, the combination of sustained northeast winds and gusts approaching 30 mph will likely make the water very rough.

The UV index peaks at 11.0 around 1 PM, which is extreme. Sunscreen, shade, and plenty of water are strongly recommended today.

It is Sunday, May 31, 2026, and Green Wave Watersports is open today.

After yesterday’s wind situation, today is looking much more pleasant at Buckroe Beach. We are finally seeing lighter winds, lower gusts, mostly sunny skies, no rain in the forecast, and a much better setup for people hoping to enjoy the sand and water. Temperatures may run a little lower, but it will feel warmer through much of the day until the evening hours.

It is also the final day of the Virginia Sand Soccer Championships, and we are wishing all the families and participants a great day at Buckroe Beach.

Unfortunately, the wind won today.

We had already suspended watersports for the day, and beach rentals wrapped up around 2:00 p.m. But once we got to the point where we could not even keep things on the table, that was all she wrote.

Big props to the hosts of the Virginia Sand Soccer Championships. Despite near sand storm conditions at times, it looked like the kids still had a fantastic time, and everything seemed to run like clockwork. Big kudos to everyone involved.

We’re really hoping for a better day for all the participants tomorrow.

It is Saturday, May 30, 2026, and Green Wave Watersports has made the decision to close watersports for the entire day due to the forcasted wind conditions.

Today is the first day of Virginia Sand Soccer Championships at Buckroe Beach, and we hope the players have a great day on the field. Beachgoers should be prepared for some challenging conditions, though. Strong north and northeast winds will create choppy water and could turn parts of the beach into a bit of a sandblaster at times.

The big story today is the wind. Gusts begin increasing late this morning and could reach around 41 mph near 5 PM. Sustained winds of 16 to 17 mph from the north and northeast will create rough water conditions and are simply too strong for safe watersports operations at Buckroe Beach.

If you are bringing an umbrella to the beach today, make sure it is properly secured. With the strong gusts expected and hundreds of players and families attending sand soccer, the last thing anyone wants is an umbrella blowing down the beach. Please take a few extra minutes to anchor everything securely.

The UV index peaks at 11.0 around 1 PM, which is extreme. Even with cooler temperatures, sunscreen, sunglasses, and plenty of water are strongly recommended.

To close the day, the moon is full with 100% illumination. Looking ahead, Sunday night brings a rare Blue Micromoon. A blue moon is the second full moon of the month, and a micromoon occurs when the moon is near its farthest point from Earth.

Virginia Sand Soccer Championships is taking over Buckroe Beach this weekend!

Saturday and Sunday, May 30th and 31st, the beach will be full of games, teams, families, and a whole lot of energy. This is going to be an awesome weekend to come down, watch some sand soccer, and enjoy everything happening at Buckroe Beach.

Green Wave Watersports will be there all weekend with beach rentals, paddle sports, eFoil lessons, concessions, cold drinks, snacks, and beach essentials.

If we run paddle sports today, it would likely be from our alternate location in Salt Ponds.
