One of the coolest parts of being a dad and a jiu-jitsu coach is getting to watch my son grow on the mats. ❤️🥋
I used to get frustrated when he wouldn’t pay attention, goofed around, or didn’t do things the way I wanted him to. I thought, “He’s not learning if he’s not listening.”
But I’m starting to realize that’s not true.
He’s 6.
He’s learning every time he steps on the mat. Even when he’s distracted. Even when he’s being silly. Even when it doesn’t look like he’s paying attention.
And now, instead of worrying about whether he’s getting every detail right, I’m just grateful that he’s there.
Seeing his progress over time has been amazing. Things that I thought weren’t sinking in are suddenly showing up in his movement, his confidence, and the way he approaches training.
My job isn’t to make him a great Jiu-Jitsu player overnight.
It’s to give him a place to learn, have fun, struggle, grow—and hopefully fall in love with the process.
I’m proud of you, son. Keep showing up. ❤️🥋
