This 20 y/o mare is at the same kill pen in Texas that Ta’Koda landed in. I’ve waited about a week but she’s still not found a home as of tonight. Many people have sent her post to this page and my personal fb due to seeing Andalusian in her description. She is actually an Azteca- Andalusian x QH cross. I do know who her sire is and that is an old bloodline, very traditional classic baroque conformation.
As I’ve stated before, we are not a “rescue” but like Ta’Koda, we will of course help when needed. With winter around the corner, I will not be able to take her on without fundraising. We do have family to help with her of course.
The only reason I decided to consider taking her is the very obvious likelihood of her being in foal. She needs weight added before foaling out at that age, but this also must be done carefully as many know the issues Iberian horses face with insulin resistance and the higher risks in pregnancy. We have an empty paddock that could have a shelter thrown together, or we could do some rotating and give her the barn paddock with a stall. They could stay here obviously, but I do know some amazing horse owners local to us who have more than once asked me about having Andalusian availability- so I do believe after the foal has been weaned and both are healthy, finding them perfect forever homes would be very easy either way. Sounds like she is a sweet mare that maybe fell into a hard situation at home. Her hooves need attention and it looks like her mane/forelock were cut off for photos. She will be beautiful with TLC.
Since followers of Asombro first brought this to my attention and helped with getting Ta’Koda safe, I would like to discuss here before committing.
