The 2026 Dick Reese Canoe and Kayak Races will be Sunday, September 20, with the start and finish at the north (upstream) end of City Island. Registration is at 9 am and the start will be at 10 am.
The races will feature an 8-mile race consisting of two U-shaped laps around City Island. We can have a shorter race of one lap for recreational paddlers, depending on demand.
This is a very low-key event and is the same format we used in 2024 and 2025. There are no sponsors, T-shirts, or medals. At the finish you will get a time, a handshake and a pat on the back. We charge a modest entry fee of $15 to cover the cost of insurance through the American Canoe Association and to raise a little money for Harrisburg Inspiring Connections Outdoors (HICO), which is a program to provide outdoor opportunities for middle school students in Harrisburg.
After the race, we can go next door to the Harrisburg Beach Club to celebrate.

The number of CCGH volunteers needed for this event is very modest. We will need two safety boaters, a timer, and a person to record times and finish places.
