Happy Birthday to Our Own Viking – Adam Suarez

As the owner of Freedom Boat Club Lake St. Clair, I want to take a moment to recognize someone who represents the very best of what we’ve built over the last decade.

Adam Suarez has been with us for more than six years. He came out of one of the first graduating classes of the marine technology program at our local community college, and from day one, he’s been steady, dependable, and all in.

Adam is a quiet leader. He doesn’t look for attention. He doesn’t need recognition. He just shows up every morning at 7 am and does the work.

Many of our members have seen it firsthand. If something breaks on the water and your day doesn’t end early, there’s a good chance Adam was the one who made that happen. If there’s debris after a storm, he’s already volunteering to head out and clear it.

In July 15, 2024 , during a hazard mitigation mission to clear a giant tree near the Spillway after a major storm, we came across a jet ski flipped upside down near the mouth of a marina in heavy chop and surrounded by rocks and floating timber. A woman was in the water yelling for help.

Without hesitation, Adam said, “Just get me close.” He stepped onto the hull, rolled the jet ski upright, and helped bring her safely to shore. Then he went right back to clearing hazards from the lake.

Recently, a friend shared an article from David Foulkes, President of Brunswick Corporation, that recognized Adam’s actions in a Brunswick newsletter. It was well deserved. But for those of us who work alongside him, this wasn’t surprising. This is who he is.

As we approach our 10-year anniversary on Lake St. Clair, I’m reminded that our club is strong because of people like Adam. Members matter. Boats matter. Locations matter. But character matters more.

Happy Birthday, Viking. I’m proud to stand beside you and grateful for everything you do for our members, our team, and this lake.

If Adam has ever helped save your boating day, feel free to share your story below.

🎉 Happy Birthday to Adam aka The Viking! ⚓️🐟

Adam is the guy we can always count on from captaining our women’s events, fixing our boats, saving people in the water (multiple times), and jumping in wherever help is needed. He never hesitates to lend a hand and keeps everything running safely and smoothly.

Thank you for everything you do, Adam. We hope you have the best birthday yet and that this year is filled with many more big catches🎣
