I don't have a date on this, I believe this was the first time I met Shogo Kuniba, Soke and Shihan Bill Price (responsible for Goshindo) And Shihan Ron Baker (responsible for Kobudo). Training at a clinic at Tony Cooper, Shihan dojo in Waynesboro, Va.
I was a brown belt in a different style when I met Kuniba Soke. About 6 months from getting a black belt in that style. After this clinic with Kuniba Soke, I decided to start training in his system, Motobu-ha Sh*to-Ryu ,later to become Kuniba-ha Sh*to-Ryu.
I was asked by the other instructor why not get your black belt in this in 6 months then get your black in the Motobu-ha Sh*to-Ryu system.
It took me 10 years of training to get to brown belt in the other style,
my own laziness, but I learned more in that 2 day clinic with Kuniba Soke than I had in 10 years in the other style so why waist 6 months when I can learn this system now! Rank was never a goal for me, what was a goal was knowledge, I always wanted to learn the how's and why's of movements and the body, the strengths and weaknesses all of it.
I started immediately training in Motobu-ha Sh*to-Ryu with Kuniba Soke as my Sensei.
I traveled back and forth to Kuniba, Soke dojo, 4 hrs travel to train 4 hrs then back home 4 hrs at least once a month while also going to every clinic he had that I could get to.
There is so much more to this story but....
Note: Before Shogo Kuniba, Soke passed he chose Bill Price, Shihan to Soke Daiko to succeed him making him, Bill Price, Soke.

Would have been 91 today!
What an impact he had on so many people.
The short time he was here, he left us so much to work on with the information he left us.
But that smile.....
