THE HANDS BEHIND THE RIDE

When the whistle blows and a bronc rider needs a safe way off, the pickup men go to work.

This is longtime Big Hat Rodeo pickup man Darren Murray doing what real cowboys do—quietly stepping into the action, taking care of the rider and the livestock, and getting the job done.

Rain or shine. Cold or heat. Easy night or hard one. Darren and the men and women behind the scenes show up ready every time.

From the pickup men, bullfighters and livestock crews to the chute help, arena crew, announcers, judges, timers, production team and everyone working beyond the spotlight: you are the hands behind the ride. Your skill, grit and dedication make it possible for Big Hat Rodeo to carry this Wild West tradition to communities across the Midwest.

As the 2026 Trailblazer Tour reaches its final stop, we salute Darren—and every hardworking member of the Big Hat Rodeo family who helped make this trail possible.

The crowd sees eight seconds. Behind those eight seconds are countless hours and some truly remarkable people.

Thank you for keeping the tradition alive.
