Not a bad trick
🌀This hurricane season has been pretty quiet so far, but we’re not out of the woods yet - and colder-weather storms will be here before you know it! When prepping your boat to weather a storm in a slip, CHAFE and STRETCH are two crucial considerations for your docklines.
Polyester lines are more resistant to chafe, but they don’t have as much stretch as nylon. Nylon’s stretch means it can absorb shock loads better, but it’s more vulnerable to chafe. Rather than choosing one or the other, try this trick to get the best of both worlds. Combining lines like this is only a good idea when they have spliced eyes – don't tie two lines together, as any knots significantly weaken the line!
