Hi everyone- Please register for the Planet Cup Finale on 2/29 (open to Rising Stars and USSS racers) and the Paul Augustine on 3/1 (open to all). Race Notices are now posted here:
Here’s some GS and Slalom Video from nonscored training last night. I caught the scored kids in GS too.
Our FIS boys / men (the highest level of racing we do) turned in a great first race at Nubs Nob today. Congrats to all! We even have a coach, Niklas Damberg, who is really fast! Now you really have to listen to him, kids!
Tracking #’s from Helly Hansen show Friday delivery to Woodbury. If so, plan to allow pick ups on Saturday. Will update when the final batch arrives.
Team Afton Uniforms are arriving. Have received most of the shipments, should be complete by end of next week. Updates to come about picking up.
Every year, the best junior racers in the world compete at the World Junior Championships. The U.S. had one of its best performances ever this year.
Have 2 gs race suits for sale. Message me if interested. Spyder padded gs suit size 6/8. Excellent condition.$75 Poc unpadded gs suit size small (8). Good condition. $50.
Hello Everyone, I met Mike Lough from Xevo Optics at Mt. Hood this summer. Mike agreed to provide our team with a 50% off coupon for their goggles. Being that I have 4 kids, 50% off sounds good to me. The goggles are comfortable and they have a magnetic lens so that your kids can switch goggle lenses with the conditions. They do have Photochromatic lenses which help with changing light conditions but to train at night I have them getting a light or clear lens. I bought the B2 google for the twins and it comes in a racer pack so you get 2 lenses. I will likely buy a third lens for night training. At checkout put in the code: Afton and you will get 50% off of your order. They don't have kid sizes exactly but my kids tried on some goggles and they fit their small faces pretty well. You might want to contact the company to discuss sizing and nose bridge.
Calling all kids 4th-12th. Perfect training for next ski season.
In case anyone missed this memo... Helmet Rule All USSA racers U14 and older must have FIS approved helmets for GS, SG and DH. Check your helmets for the FIS approved sticker: Be sure that any helmets you buy, new or used, and plan to use in GS, SG or DH have this sticker. This does not apply to helmets used in Slalom events.
Where is everyone staying for Speed Camp at Indianhead?
Hi All - Is anyone still at Mt. Kato? We left an important item there and have travelled home already. If so, please text me at 651-271-2118. Thanks much.

Good morning Lutsen!

A winning weekend.
We journeyed East to Warsaw, er, Wausau, WI this weekend. Granite Peak rises from the center of Wisconsin to near-mountain stature (can someone check on that... what qualifies a mountain a Mtn.?)

Winning? Yes, we had 3 3-sweeps for Team Afton’s U10s. We had multi-podiums from multi-Team Aftonites, U8s to U18s (u19). Badger State Games kickoff event - and giant awards to boot.

We encountered a challenging new slope - apprehension at first, turned to concurring.

There were a few firsts - which are always wins: Nathan R., Mike and Charlie, the Reardon’s showed up to their first ever GS outing - concurred! some ski-up breakouts (Austin went beyond his limits), Sam-I-am had his first go as a Team Aftoner - and really showed up! and little Shea R. had a real-deal Lindsey Vonn moment with a bnet - whoa! Huge tumble - that more got the better of the Ski Patrol than Shea - she shrugged it off (Patrol guy was the real fish in the net!)

Lot’s of wins. For one, the weather was more than tolerable - and downright uplifting on Sunday. Big win for Captain Ron (aka, Ron Burgundy) Granite Peaks Director and host - thank you Ron.

And of course, some new nicknames, like: Jean Luc is now “Jean Claude” (look it up - pretty good skier). He had a weekend indeed.

On to the Chuck Stone tomorrow and then a well deserved Christmas break.

frohe Weihnachten

Great to be on snow again in MN! A super WILD day - thanks to all who came out to ski off the rust. Special thanks to the Vikes for eeking out a nail biter!

[11/15/19]   Uniforms are ready for pick up!

OL Thanksgiving in Colorado - www.skiracingcamp.com

What exactly is an OL Thanksgiving? Well, it all started back in the day – when the Pilgrims skied down from the North and hosted….

Okay in reality, in 1998, we held our first Thanksgiving in Colorado. Through the years, it’s been a trip to say the least. We’ve had to overcome hurdles (such as the Women’s World Cup coming to Copper unexpectedly – but oh, what an experience!) changes in location, and weather challenges among things, and through it all we’ve have hosted countless skiers who’ve gone on to do remarkable things with their skiing and lives. A surprising number of skiers who’ve passed through our camps have been elevated to the US Ski Team (like Nina O’Brien, Erik Arvidsson, Travis Ganong, Foreste Peterson, Will Brandenburg, to name a few). Many skiers are now doctors, lawyers, activists, inventors, teachers, and leaders where they’ve found passion in life. For that we are thankful.

An OL Thanksgiving is an essential start to any ski racer’s season. In many ways, it’s an essential start to finding one’s passion in life. The days are long. Waking up early to gain precious lane space that sometimes starts in the dark before dawn. It’s cold. The light is flat. But the air is fresh. The snow is crisp. The sounds of the early mountain are tranquil. Your focus is honed. The prospect of challenging yourself in the day is at hand, and you hope to gain insights to new balance, strength and speed on your skis. By days end, you’re exhausted. When the boots come off – it’s the best of feelings. The fireplace is so perfect, along with warm cookies – maybe some cider or tea. The video session affirms what worked and what didn’t. A new goal for tomorrow. So it goes day-to-day. By week’s end – you’ve changed. Though maybe imperceptible – you are different. You’ve accumulated an experience you will carry into the season, and into your life beyond. For that we are thankful.

We are heading into our 20th Thanksgiving in Colorado and we couldn’t be more thankful and thrilled to invite you to be part of it. The Tivoli in Vail is our cozy home. Our staff once again – tip-top, will lift you through the week to new heights. Gold Peak fired its snow guns just the other day – blowing out the cobwebs of summer. The weather is scheduled to dip lower any minute now…. Call us if you have questions. Make it a family affair – we have special rates for you. It’ll be here soon. We’re looking forward to it!
